Lamborghini Gallardo LP550-2 Spyder revealed

Lamborghini has used the 2011 Los Angeles motor show to reveal the new Lamborghini Gallardo LP550-2 Spyder - the convertible version of the only rear-wheel-drive variant in the supercar's range.

The LP550-2 features the same sharp and angular body as the coupe, only it comes with a soft-top roof for the ultimate open-top driving experience.

As with the coupe version of the Lamborghini Gallardo LP550-2, the Spyder sends its power to the rear wheels in contrast to the normal all-wheel-drive set-up on all other Gallardo models.

The LP550-2 Spyder naturally features the same 405kW 5.2-litre V10 engine found in the coupe, though it inevitably loses some performance owing to structural reinforcements that compensate for the loss of a fixed roof.

The result sees the Spyder add 140kg to tip the scales at 1520kg, bringing acceleration down from a blistering quick 3.9 seconds for the 0-100km/h sprint to a still-indecently-fast 4.2 seconds. Top speed is 319km/h.

Lamborghini Australia is yet to confirm a possible local market entry and/or pricing.
