2012 Jaguar XKR-S Convertible in Australia by March

The 2012 Jaguar XKR-S Convertible has been revealed ahead of its international debut at the 2011 Los Angeles Auto Show.

The XKR-S Convertible joins the XKR-S Coupe at the pinnacle of Jaguar’s hard-core sports car line, and will arrive in Australia around March next year.

Jaguar Australia brand manager Kevin Goult said local pricing was still to be finalised but confirmed the XKR-S Convertible would be “around the $340,000-$360,000 range”.

Given the XKR-S Coupe costs $340,000, and there is a $23,300 price premium for the regular XKR Convertible over the XKR Coupe, we suspect the final price will be closer to the higher end of that range.

Fans of the hard-top XKR-S will no doubt approve of the Convertible’s styling, which has lost none of the Coupe’s hard-edged elegance.

Just as welcome is the confirmation that the soft-top gives nothing away to the Coupe from a performance perspective either.

The XKR-S Convertible is powered by the same 405kW/680Nm 5.0-litre supercharged V8 engine as the XKR-S Coupe. Both cars sprint from 0-100km/h in 4.4 seconds and both are capable of reaching 300km/h. These figures make the XKR-S the fastest and most powerful open-top Jaguar in history.

The fabric roof opens and closes in 18 seconds and can be ordered in seven different colours – one more than the number of exterior paint options. The rear spoiler is unique to the Convertible and works in conjunction with the rear apron and carbon fibre diffuser to reduce lift by 26 per cent and balance the car’s aerodynamics.

Despite the complex folding roof, the XKR-S Convertible weighs just 42kg more than the Coupe (1795kg vs 1753kg).

Like the Coupe, the Convertible rides on 20-inch alloy wheels and Pirelli P Zero tyres. The 380mm front and 376mm rear disc brakes are paired with aluminium callipers, which are finished either in red or gunmetal grey.

The uprated active differential, bespoke adaptive damping program and stability control system with ‘Trac DSC’ mode all add to the dynamic package.

Inside, the XKR-S Convertible features 16-way adjustable carbon-leather performance seats, as well as a multi-function leather-wrapped steering wheel, stainless steel pedals, and dark aluminium and piano black surfaces.
