Last week we brought you spy photos of the hybrid version of the new BMW X6, and now we caught what is believed to be the M version of the newest entry in the BMW lineup.

Although BMW still won’t confirm the M version of the X6, the side vents and dual exhaust on each side give away the true identity of this not-so-mild-mannered X6.

Built to compete with Porsche’s Cayenne Turbo S, Mercedes ML63 AMG and other high-performance crossovers – the X6 M may very well be in a class of it’s own.

Rumours have it the X6M will be powered by the M5’s 5.0-litre V10 with 373kW and 520Nm of torque. We’re expecting BMW to make an official announcement about the X6 M before the end of the year.

  1. Who cares what version of the hideous X6 this is, the pig of a thing still looks like a yet-to-dry clay model of an X5 that had a shipping container dropped on the back end at an oblique angle.
Said it before and will say it again. There are enough cloth-headed BMW slaves out there that plastic buckets full of wombat vomit will command a premium price as long as the blue propeller badge is on the outside.

  2. B///M3 says:

It’s a stunning looking car! Definitely on my shopping list.

  3. Bavarian Missile says:

Im with you B///M3 ,I dont like any of the other 4×4 lineup from BMW but this is very classy! Love it from the rear too,how big are those back tyres ?

  4. I think we’ve just heard from two of them.

  5. MD says:

I think this vehicle looks great.

I’d be interested to know what Captain Mainwaring’s tastes are…

  6. Spitfire says:

I agree with Captain Mainwaring on this one. This thing is hideous and bizarre. As bad as a SsanYong and that is really bad.

  7. He actually loves BMWs for their build quality and the way they drive, but not for the fact that their brand premium is derived more from taking money off those who like to be seen in them rather than knowing how to use them.
And he likes the look of most BMWs, but definitely not this one. If you really need a car that looks like this, pay a quarter of the price for a Ssangyong Actyon.

  8. Bavarian Missile says:

Captain you compare a Ssangyong Actyon to a BMW …mmm and you insulted us!

Im agree with MD? Your tastes are what and why, I want to know before you start throwing stones! Thought we were allowed to have an opinion!

I own a BMW for its performance not cause of the badge on the front.

Funny how people form opinions on their own feelings not fact!

  9. Sorry BM I, thought I made myself clear. There are two types of BMW owner.
    1. Those who are not driving enthusiasts but buy it for what the badge says about them.
    2. Those who buy it for the superb driving qualities (you). And me too if I could afford one.
Unfortunately it’s those in the first category who are responsible for the inflated price.
And this is a separate argument to the ugliness of the X6.

  10. Fred says:

The X6 thinks it’s a coupe, only higher and with 4 doors. The tapered rear is an acquired taste, perhaps a ready-made Dakar vehicle (you only need the decals and suspension modification as it’s not a real SUV). For a 4×4 it handles brilliantly but still no replacement for a true sports. Nor is it practical having only 4 seats and much less cargo area than the X5.

  11. Corporal Jones says:

They Don’t Like it Up Em!” –

Could it be that the Toy-philes such as Captn mainwaiwrong are threatened by this beatiful stylish yet somewhat different looking SUV? are they sacared that it could take sales away from the RX330 of which the only really decent thing going for it is the Harmon Kardon Stereo.

  12. Wheelnut says:

Touche Captn Mainwaring – but you could also say the same about Lexii.

Athough simple economics dictates that as more people want something; demand increases and as the BMWs are in relatively short supply [like a limited resource - not easily available etc] prices go up until only those really want one and are prepared to wait the 3-6 months etc are left.

Then of course theres the perfomance/handling the features the safety that you get with a BMW not to mention the innovation…. but as youre a Toyota fan I won’t [ha ha]

  13. Wheelnut says:

Strange thing is I can actually see the C6 becoming more popular than you might think

Not just because it will appeal to the real BMW enthusiasts because of its looks and its performance etc

But mainly because of the image conscious are always looking for something special something different something that they would like to think no one else has as a way of expressing their supposed “individuality”

Funny thing is that because places like Sydney is over run with these people commonly known as Poseurs]… what will happen is that a considerable number of them will most likely have the same idea Theyll think:

“everyone around has an RX-330 but no-one has an X6″

Theyll then buy one as will “everyone else” thereby reducing the exclusivity which is what they were after in the first place

  14. Wheelnut says:

Capt’n Mainwairing – What price should you expect to pay for a Plastic Bucket of Wombat Vomit these days…?

I mean I want to make sure that I’m not getting ripped off!

  15. Wheelnut says:

Correction – the RX330 has a Mark Levinson Stereo which is good but not as good as Harmon Kardon and nowhere near BOSE

  16. rich boy says:

You just add 2 more tail pipes and your done.

  17. Wheelnut says:

BMW already has the X5 to compete wiht the Cayenne and the ML63… I’d say that this is BMWs take on what a 4-Door Coupe should look like and will compete with the Porsche Panamera Merc-Benz CLS or the Aston Martin Rapide etc.
The difference being it not only has 4WD but also one of the worlds best sounding / engineered engines

  18. Hammer says:

I dont mind this one, but I must admit, it does look like a Ssangyong Actyon copy at the back. Funny how 1 company gets the ugly comment the the other gets the trend setter title

  19. bobdown says:

Everyone has different tastes – saw this for the first time, thought it was the ugliest car. Test drove onbe for a weekend and it turns out to be the best car i’ve driven. Which just goes to show, as with people, sometimes it runs deeper than looks. Now i’m fortunate enough to drive and compare a lot of cars and having a new DBS i’m fortunate enough to be given cars to test drive over long periods ……… So to sum up we all have opinions – but sometimes getting to know something can really change your mind – its an acquired taste – not just the domain of prestige bmw wannabees – basically the x6 is marmite
