2012 Mercedes-Benz C 63 AMG Coupe Black Series: $245,000 in Australia

By Tim Beissmann |

Just 32 Australians will be able to claim the title of owning the most powerful C-Class ever when the 2012 Mercedes-Benz C 63 AMG Coupe Black Series goes on sale in April.

Mercedes-Benz Cars Australia managing director Horst von Sanden confirmed the exclusive C 63 AMG Coupe Black Series would be priced from $245,000 (before on-road costs) when it launches in around six months.

“This is our third Black Series and it follows on from the success of the CLK 63 AMG Black Series (40 units for Australia/NZ) and the SL 65 AMG Black Series (7 units for Australia/NZ),” Mr von Sanden said.

“The C 63 AMG Coupe Black Series will be limited to a total of 35 units for Australia and New Zealand. Obviously we wanted to get more but, the global customer demand for this latest Black Series (since it was revealed at the 2011 Frankfurt Motor Show) has seen our allocation limited to just 35 units.”

The C 63 AMG Coupe Black Series is not for the faint-hearted – or those light on credit. At $245,000, the Black is $90,200 more than the standard C 63 AMG Coupe.

So what exactly do you get for the extra spend, which is enough to buy a C 300?

The main changes are made to the 6.3-litre V8 engine, which is bumped up to 380kW of power and 620Nm of torque (an increase of 44kW/20Nm). The extra power helps launch the Black from 0-100km/h in just 4.2 seconds, making it two-tenths faster than the standard C 63 AMG and one-tenth quicker than the AMG Performance Package variant. An AMG rear-axle differential lock is also added to the Black Series model.

On the outside, the Black gets a menacing body kit and 19-inch 10-spoke AMG alloy wheels, both of which will ensure people know you haven’t just bought the run-of-the-mill C 63.

Inside it scores four AMG sports seats finished in Artico/Dinamica with red topstitching and the Keyless-Go system. Illuminated doorsill panels, carbon fibre highlights, and interior and exterior ‘Black Series’ badges round out the package.

If you’re keen on the Mercedes-Benz C 63 AMG Black Series, you’d better be quick. Mr von Sanden said Mercedes-Benz Australia already has a “double-figure order bank” for the car.

Always thought the standard C63 was a bit gutless and could do with more power – not!

  • AndyGF

    Flared wheel arches… Oh Yes!

  • Vince

Dear Lotto, please let me win, I need to place my order stat. Thanks!

  • Ox

An extra $90,200 for a two-tenths performance gain and some extra plastic……

    • theillestlife

and the insane “black-series” badge. totally worth it.

  • Shak

Hmmm not that i doubt the performance potential of this car one bit, but something about its outward appearance just looks a bit tame to me, when compared to the normal C63…

  • jakhammer

The price gouging is incredible, the profit margin for MB Germany is huge

    • Flabby Chap

It’s about half the price in Europe and costs much less to make. The GTR costs $170k and could do 2.8sec.

  • Donerlich

Lol @ people complaining that this is too expensive….its only too expensive when no one buys it and as this will sell within a few months, that obviously isn’t the case. Plenty of badge driven customers out there who will spend mother 90k worth for 2 10th’s of a second and some other small bits.

First rule of sales…..charge what people will pay.

  • Mark

For some reason the “upgraded” look of the black’s remind me of HSV’s

  • Rivo5

I have never thought the more aggressive body kit on the black series suited the lines of the coupes, looks a bit over the top. Me, i’d be happy with the standard c63 coupe with the AMG performance package. Its a lot more money for marginal (0.1 sec) performance gains.

  • Jim Sim

Ill take mine in black thanks.

  • HJP

Hmm $90,200 price increase over standard C63 AMG for one tenth performance margin and more menacing body kit and other cosmetic enhancements? I’ll take standard C63 AMG with Performance Package, that will do for me.

  • Baaron

I thought it was only a 2 seater?

    • theillestlife

It is. look at the interior pic.

also, im pretty sure you can option rear seats if you wish, but who would?

do we only get 32 or 32 every year?

    • theillestlife

      no, just 32. one time.

  • Andrew Juma

That is just outright beautiful. I love this car. Now I just need to work on the money.

  • Wal

Could just buy the “standard” c63 and then send off to brabus

    • Boostit

Forget Brab. Boys at RamSpeed in Sydney, already boosted 3 AMG cars with their supercharger kit for the high end Mercedes. $25K and you are in business, did you hear these cars?!! C63, ML63, you name it they boost it

  • DonkeyKong

… But a Brabus Bullit(based on C63) cost 600K euros before tax… In Europe.. where luxury cars aren’t hated upon.
