Suzuki Swift EV, Regina and Q-concept revealed ahead of Tokyo debut

Suzuki has previewed a few concepts it plans to unveil at the 2011 Tokyo Motor Show later this month: the Suzuki Regina concept, the Suzuki Q-concept and the Suzuki Swift EV Hybrid concept.

The Suzuki Swift EV Hybrid concept hints at a potential future production car - an electric Suzuki Swift. The powertrain consists of an electric motor which provides a range of up to 30km in full EV model, backed by a petrol engine for range-extending purposes. Suzuki says the range-extending technology was chosen over a full EV arrangement due to the former's potential to be lighter in weight, less expensive and use fewer resources than an EV.

Suzuki will also show the futuristic Suzuki Q-concept at the Tokyo show. Showcasing a compact circular frame, the Q-concept is designed to be a cross between a motorcycle and a car, in terms of manoeuvrability. It features two tandem seats and an overall length of just 2.5 metres. Suzuki hasn’t revealed the powertrain details, although it says the Q is suitable for those travelling around 10km per day.

Lastly, the Suzuki Regina is the company’s vision for a future global compact vehicle. The focus of the Regina is to be as efficient as possible, presenting a very aerodynamic body – up to 10 per cent more efficient through the air compared with the current crop of compact city cars – as well as a very lightweight construction tipping the scales at just 760kg. Emissions have been rated at just 70g/km CO2 while an official fuel consumption rating of 32km/L (3.1L/100km) has been achieved on the JC08 test cycle.

All three concepts will be officially unveiled at the 2011 Tokyo Motor Show on November 30. Look out for plenty of coverage of the show in the coming weeks.
