2013 Ford Escape interior teased: video

By Tim Beissmann |

Ford has teased the interior of the all-new 2013 Ford Escape.

The video – designed to demonstrate the functionality of the upgraded MyFord Touch infotainment system – gives us a sneak peak at the interior of the new Escape about one week out from the international debut of the production model at the 2011 Los Angeles Auto Show.

The interior takes some inspiration from the Ford Vertrek Concept that was unveiled at the 2011 North American International Auto Show in Detroit in January. The centre console is similar, with a large, high-mounted touchscreen and vertical air vents. Like the Vertrek Concept, the dashboard cover is relatively flat to allow for better visibility.

There appears to be plenty of different materials and surface textures used throughout the cabin, including leather on the seats and steering wheel, piano black around the display screen and satin chrome on the door handles and grabs, steering wheel, air vents and instrument cluster surrounds.

The Escape in the video features the new MyFord Touch system, which is, so far, largely designed for the North American market and is unlikely to feature in Australian-spec Escapes in the short term.

Last month we reported the new Escape would become the first Ford vehicle to offer the choice of two different EcoBoost engines. The highly efficient turbocharged direct-injection petrol engines will be available in the Escape in 1.6- and 2.0-litre displacements.

The new 2013 Ford Escape will go on sale overseas early next year. An Australian launch is expected later in 2012.

Why can’t ford Australia get my ford touch? All we get is a pissy little screen. Sharing is caring.. Give us my ford touch and the mustang.. And we will give u the falcon. Deal?

Judging by the quality surveys and reports out of the U.S. I dont think Ford Aus would want MyFord Touch in its current iteration. Fair few reports of sluggish response, system crashes which leave the aircon inaccessible, stereo volume unable to adjust etc. Needs another generation or two to iron out the bugs

Cant wait to get our pathetic screen instead of this!

Can you guys please find some other word to use than teased…it’s getting a bit boring. How about sneak preview or something along those lines.

Ford Escape? Isn’t this the SUV that has third-world build quality and aesthetic?

You’re telling the story Charlie, the article says it is being released next week at the LA Auto Show.

I remember hearing Ford mention that the software for the Falcon/Territory Touchscreen Systems is upgradable. Hopefully this interface can be retrofitted to Aussie Fords at a later date as it looks like a pretty slick system.

  • myford touch now

Yeah ford give us this system.
The touch screen in the Territory makes the same sounds as the US one, So maybe its the same but a different interface for the time being until it is introduced.

Maybe CARADVICE should find out whats happening with this system for AUS.

Yeah, that would be more useful than regurgitating media releases.

ford is sending usb flash drives with a firmware update to everyone who has purchased a car with this system.

its supposed to make it run smoothly.

    heres hoping!

Great system, but I would find it a bit annoying having to press a few buttons to get to the air con controls etc. The future is definitely to have multiple screens for greater multi tasking.

Thank you. Good interior shots and I better understand Fords MFT. Personally I like having a single interface for all the dials on the dashboard. Ford is just doing what everyone will be doing in a few years.
