Peugeot’s epic 50-millionth milestone
July 14, 2008 by George Skentzos
The world’s oldest continuous motoring brand has passed an epic milestone this week, with Peugeot announcing the production of its 50-millionth vehicle since its inception in 1891.
The landmark 50-millionth vehicle was a Peugeot 308, produced at the brand’s manufacturing site at Sochaux, France – just one of 24 production sites around the world.
Currently, Peugeot manufactures over 160 individual models for worldwide distribution from the 201 to the 308.
With these historic figures in mind, Peugeot has calculated that more than 1.1 million vehicles emitting less than 120g of CO2/km have been registered by Peugeot in Europe alone since 2001.
The brand has strong commitment to the environment, in the past becoming the first manufacturer to introduce a Diesel Particulate Emission Filter as standard on the 607 in 2000.
It also plans to conduct a major reforestation project in Amazonia which, over a 40 year period, aims to help balance out carbon emissions in the atmosphere.

Good for them. I like Peugeots. I would rather have a little bit of unreliablility any day if it meant have a 308 over a corolla.
Love the French styling and best-in-the world diesels. The Lion goes from strength to strength.
Congrats, hoe they make it until the fuel runs out.
With the rainforest thing, lets hope it spurs other car makers to do similar things (and congrats to those that are already).
All those 504s and 404s that dominated the East African Safaris and the like created a 40 year trail of good will, and with good reason.
Good work Peugeot on the brilliant styling and drivability that has earned 50 million well deserved sales. Congratulations from a satisfied customer.
Congrats to Peugeot, hope many more anniversaries come in this changing world.
Hey Dudes,
I’m a big fan of the website, u always have all the latest news when necessary – but hey – the 308CC has been relased and I found out on the official peugeot website not here!!??!! what’s going on?
So there are nearly as many 4 wheeled Pugs around as there are 4 legged ones…. Maybe we could use one to run over the other?
Pat205GTi, the 308CC is still to make to AU. Shouldn’t be too long now..
