1999-2004 Mercedes-Benz ML 163 recalled in Australia: 7489 vehicles affected

Mercedes-Benz Australia has recalled almost 7500 Mercedes-Benz ML-Class SUVs over a defect related to the vehicles’ cruise control.

The recall affects 7489 ML 163 four-wheel drives manufactured between August 1999 and June 2004. The affected vehicles were sold in Australia between August 1, 1999 and June 30, 2004.

The official recall notice published on the Australian Competition & Consumer Commission (ACCC) website explains:

“A faulty brake light switch may lead to the cruise control not disengaging when tapping the brake pedal. The cruise control can still be disengaged via the cruise control lever or by applying the brakes fully.

“Failure of the cruise control to disengage may lead to a serious accident.”

To repair the defect, Mercedes-Benz Australia will replace the brake light switch in all vehicles in the affected range free of charge.

Mercedes-Benz Australia will contact all owners by mail and encourages all affected owners to contact their authorised Mercedes-Benz dealer to complete the recall service.
