Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren 722 Edition
January 30, 2007 by Alborz Fallah
The new Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren 722 Edition is here, well not really in Australia, but at least it now exists! Unfortunately for us here in the land of right hand drive vehicles, the SLR is not available in Australia owing to production in left hand drive only.

This car is seriously fast, the car puts out an incredible 478 kW (or 650 hp) from its 5.5-litre supercharged V8 assembled by hand engine manufactured at the Mercedes-AMG engine workshops in Affalterbach, Germany.
Mercedes says that only 150 models are being produced. Why so few? Well it wouldn’t be a special edition otherwise and also the cars are literally for the most part handcrafted, at the McLaren Formula 1 works in Woking.

You’d think a car of this caliber would come with a manual gearbox? But Mercedes haven’t been able to build or find a Manual gearbox that could take the brute force and torque of this beast, so they’ve instead decided to strap a five-speed automatic transmission, which was developed in-house at Mercedes-Benz and has already featured in a number of exceptionally powerful models, to the SLR.
The gearbox comes with 3 individually selectable transmission modes -
- M (Manual)
- S (Sport)
- C (Comfort)

You see that the boys in Saudi Arabia are enjoying the new McLaren, (even wondered where your petrol money goes?) but with all that power and technology, just how fast does the SLR 722 Edition actually go?
- 0 to 100 km/h in 3.6 seconds
- 0 to 200 km/h in 10.2 seconds
- 0 to 300 km/h in 28.0 seconds
- top speed of 337 km/h

Man I love this car, it’s one of my favourite supercars that I wish to own if I can afford it! The problem is it’s still not available for Australia, I knew this country is very limited with supercars but can’t they convert cars from left to right hand drive? Oh well, I’m a supercar fanatic & there’s not much of them to enjoy in this country. Australia is not the right place to live in if you love to see many supercars & owning them. Anyways I love the SLR 722!
