Ford Ranger scores top marks in EuroNCAP testing

Ford's Ranger is the first ever pickup to achieve the top five star rating, outclassing the likes of the Volkswagen Amarok (four star EuroNCAP safety rating) and more than doubling the PK Ranger's two star safety rating effort.

In addition to the record rating in the pickup category, the Ranger also achieved an 89% overall safety rating and 81% pedestrian impact safety rating, the latter of which is the best of any vehicle ever tested by EuroNCAP.

Stephen Odell, chairman and CEO, Ford of Europe said,“Vehicle safety is a core value at Ford Motor Company and these independent test results confirm that not only is Ranger the highest rated vehicle in its class, it is also one of the highest rated vehicles ever assessed by EuroNCAP.

“No one wants to be involved in an accident but if the worst were to happen, the new Ranger is proven to provide outstanding protection to occupants of all ages as well as pedestrians."

Part of the reason the Ford Ranger offers such a high level of safety for passengers comes from the extensive use of high-tensile strength steel and alternate load paths that deflect the load away from passengers.

During Ranger development, Ford engineers performed over 9000 computer crash simulations, 110 real life crash tests and 410 system sled tests.

Also counted in the Ranger's crash test rating was the array of active safety features that range from Electronic Stability Control (ESC), through to Trailer Sway Control (TSC) and Hill Descent and Ascent Control (HDC and HAC).

With a great deal of engineering and design work conducted locally in Australia, we should be proud to call the top-rated Ford Ranger our own.
