Honda has announced added value for the 2012 Honda Accord Euro, Honda Odyssey and Honda Insight as part of the Honda Annual Clearance which is now underway. The models come with $500 worth of accessories and Honda Warranty Plus.

All purchases of the 2012 Honda Accord Euro, Honda Odyssey and Honda Insight come with 140,000km/five-year warranty, as well as five years of premium roadside assistance, and, for added value, $500 worth of genuine Honda accessories of the customer’s choice.

Optional accessories include roof racks, a tow bar, alloy wheels or a range of interior accessories according to the model. Honda Australia director and general manager of sales and marketing, Stephen Collins, recently said,

“Honda customers are assured that when they purchase a Honda, they are receiving a quality product and more value for their money with the annual clearance offer.”

The 2012 Honda Accord Euro is available from $32,990 drive away, while the Honda Odyssey is available from $39,990 drive away, and the Honda Insight hybrid is available from $29,990 drive away.

What??? No comments to this story as yet or is that only because nobody is interested in the Honda brand anymore. Nice try Honda…but you may have to offer a lot more giveaways before you get a bite.

  • Mr Gaspo

Honda are you listening…. Diesel autos and Accord wagon now! Get your product right and there is no need to discount.

  • F1MotoGP

No Integra, Prelude, Accord Euro diesel, CRV diesel, Accord Hybrid…etc. Another few years and even Proton will sell more cars than Honda.

  • mmmmm

wow is honda au really so delusional that they think a lousy $500 of accessories will make people want their unloved cars?

time to bring in diesels, the honda petrol engines with the lack of low down torque are BORING old tech

    • Boothy1983

I used to work for Honda!! 500 bucks wouldn’t get you some floor mats and mudflaps!!! Baaaahhh

  • Charger

That should get the showroom traffic flooding in!!
Stuff that they would be throwing in anyway trying to clear all the dead stock! WOW Honda you really have lost the plot!

  • JEKYL & HYDE

wonder if i get buy an extra cog for a euro auto with my $500…

  • Pauly

Honda Australia…. I think most people that visit these websites could run you better then you have been for the past few years.

Account Euro Tourer (NO EXCUSE, its in Japan and Europe, why not here?)
    Accord Euro Tourer Diesel
    Account Euro Diesel

    Civic Hatch Diesel
Civic Coupe (If Thailand can pump out American Style Accords and Civics, they can surly pump out the USA Civic Coupe)

    CR-V Diesel

Accord Coupe (Again, if Thailand can make the American Style Accord, they can make the Accord Coupe the USA gets)

  • Pauly

    AND WHERE IS THE CR-Z???

DON’T EVEN DARE TO LAUNCH THIS CAR NEXT MONTH AT STUPIDLY INFLATED PRICES!!!

If rumors of a $35,000 starting price are correct, it will be dead before it even starts to sell.

CR-Z COSTS LESS THEN INSIGHT OVERSEAS! The same rule should apply here. Get a cheap sporty car in your line up!

    • Pauly

Not to mention that Hyundai are releasing the Veloster next month too and if the $25,000 starting price Car Advice are stating is true, CR-Z is already $10,000 too expensive.

    • Alexander

      wow… drama queen?

I’ve been told by dealers that it should be around $30,000, right on with the Audi A1, Mini and DS3, yet the CR-Z will be well equipped in our market.

Little cars with lots of kit and attractive styling will sell relatively well even at $35,000, look at the Mini, A1 etc, it’s a STYLE not VALUE driven market segment.

  • Noel

I’ve said it before on this site, Honda just don’t build great cars anymore. As an owner of a current Accord Euro and 4 other Hondas over the last 15 years I can say with my hand on my heart, Honda have lost the plot.

My current Accord superficially seems well put together, the day to day experience seems to indicate it isn’t. The best example I can give (and I’m sure this will make many people laugh) are the rain sensing wipers, in my first Euro these worked faultlessly, in this one they just don’t seem to work quite right. I can’t get them to the sensitivity I want (yet not a problem in the first Euro), I think this is just indicative of the car as a whole, corners cut during R&D.

It’s just sad to see this happening to what was once an excellent car company. This will be my last Honda because of this experience.

    • Boothy1983

If it has had an aftermarket windscreen fitted ( like windscreens obrien) they never work properly again. Has to be the genuine $1500 windscreen fitted!

  • Able

Great if you were buying one in the first place but it’s no-where near enough to entice someone to buy one! Shame really…

  • HJP

Honda, stop wasting putting effort on offering discounts. You will need to get your act together in bring the Accord Euro Wagon and bring diesel engines for Accord Euro, Civic and CR-V. You have to catch up with other manufacturers or else you will fall behind even further. You’ve lost it Honda and my next car won’t be a Honda.

  • A-Train

I think $500 will get you any stuffed toy from the bottom shelf!

Hondas don’t do good in Australia for some reason which is quite odd because they do good in USA, Canada & U.K which are similar markets to Australia..

But Australia has a very limited lineup compared to other countries hence why they don’t sell that many..

  • Clem

You can’t teach An OLD DOG to do New Trick! “Stupid Dog” that’s what I’m going to say.
My next car will not be a Honda.

  • Alexander

As long as Honda clings onto it’s (crap) IMA hyrbids, they will continue to not sell. Why they havent developed it and released a full (not mild) hybrid system over the past 10 years is beyond me. Drive a Prius then drive and Insight and although a Prius isnt everyone’s favourite car, it is miles, miles better than an Insight.

If Honda is THAT adamant on pushing hybrids in our market instead of diesels, atleast do them well.

  • Damian

Honda, instead of giving us the dodgy UK spec Civic Type-R hatch with the torsion beam suspension, give is the JDM spec Civic Type R sedan.

  • Pauly

Honda do better in Japan, USA, Canada and UK because they have a much bigger selection of cars, engines and transmissions.

Honda Australia are living under the rock. I posted earlier in another article about the perfect line up that Honda Australia could aim for, and I can guarantee it will sell.

    Honda Australia just start small.

    - Diesel Euro
    - Diesel CRV
    - Diesel Civic
    - Diesel Euro Tourer
    - Euro Tourer Petrol
    - Jazz Hybrid
    - CR-Z (this thing has taken over 2 years to get here, not good enough)
    - Insight (lower the price to around $27,000 and you will see sales pick up)

    - Accord Coupe
    - Civic Coupe

This will put some sporty models back into the mix and some new choices that other car companies dont even offer here yet!

The thing is Honda Australia have ALOT of cars to choose from. Some very very very good cars! but they refuse to bring them here.

  • anthony

As others have said, the Euro is arguably Hondas best car in the world, but the rest of the world has the wagon, diesel, and America,Canada, and Mexico even get it with the V6,where it is sold as the upmatket Acura TSX,which competes with the Audi A4,Lexus IS,BMW 3 series, and Mercedses C Class models.

  • Flabby Chap

What’s up with diesel cars? Fashionable?

The reason why diesel cars are “fashionable” in Europe is because petrol costs 1.5 to 2 times more than diesel over rhere.

Diesel cars use 20% less fuel than petrol cars. But in Aust diesel costs 10% more than petrol. Don’t get me started the diesel servicing interval, parts cost ($4,000 for 4 diesel injectors)

    • Pauly

Diesel’s get more KM’s more tank of fuel. Yes you can bang on about how they cost $2000 more then petrol cars and thats alot of fuel.

But really? If your planning on spending that kinda money anyone its no big loss.

Plus the Accord Euro could really do with a more torquey engine. Something the petrol simply doesnt offer unless you get the V6. In which case the Diesel would be a cheaper option to buy and run.

    • Pauly

And ontop of that, its giving customers more choice. Honda need to match or better their competition and they just arn’t. Simple.

      Ford
      Mazda
      Volkswagen
      Skoda
      Subaru

All offer diesel’s in their line up. Sure some of them have manual only. But Honda Australia has the added bonus of offering a great diesel engine coupled to an auto.

PLUS! Honda Australia said they WOULD import the Diesel Euro once an auto transmission was an option…. so what happened?

    • Car Fanatic

Petrol does not cost 1.5 to 2 times that of Diesel

      Germany : Unleaded 90p/litre Diesel: 77.4p/litre ( 16 percent difference)
      France : Unleaded 85p/litre, Diesel : 85p/litre ( no difference)
Netherlands Unleaded 100p/litre Diesel 77p/litre ( biggest difference in Europe, 30%)

Generally though Diesel is 15-20% cheaper

      Mazda 3 Diesel Manual (5.7l/100)
      Mazda 3 petrol Manual (7.9l/100) ( that’s a 38% difference in fuel consumption).

Also take into account Europe use 95 Octane as standard.

      Locally Diesel costs me 148.9
Premium ULP costs 149.9 at the same station. These price differences are similar to those of the UK where Diesel ownership is much higher than ours.

Next time check your facts before making unfounded statements.

Honda needs Diesel engined cars, they are becoming more common and they could miss the boat if they don’t move now.

      • Alexander

Yet it’s getting increasingly costly to make diesels clean enough to meet emission standards (EU6) and to get them close to the cleanliness of a petrol. Look at the air quality problems diesels are causing in European cities. Various companies say there’s little room for further development of diesels and that they’ll become obsolete in the bear future with the development of petrol engines (AutoCar posted about this in 2020 BMW 3series article a few days back).

  • dazel

lets go to the honda head office in australia and shoot the ceo down :)

  • theillestlife

bring the honda nsx back and ill buy one no questions asked.

assuming its as good as the 1st one.

  • Jason

Having owned a 2008 Euro Nav I can say it is full of technology, fuel consumption was OK, handled well but was just a dull and lifeless driving experience. The engine struggled under the added weight and the transmission added to bland to the driving experience. Honda has developed what Toyota has has mastered by creating the ultimate in “beige” driving and why everyone now looks to Korea for something different and new.

    • tekkyy

yeah Euro suffers the same problem as the base Liberty

      sporty looks on the outside
      soft plastic on the inside
      double-wishbone on the buttom

      gets your expectation up

the lack of good power to weight ratio seems unfitting

  • laurie

Interesting how the trade-in vehicle is going to be sold off if they cannot get rid of the new cars!! assuming someone is trading in a older Honda

  • GelKee

    too little, too late

  • hehe

Yes I don’t think Honda is listening. Got a quote of $22k for a tiny weeny 1.5L Jazz VTi. And the sales person makes it sound like its the best buy of the century

For that price I can get a better car with bigger engine, say a Mazda 3.

Not sure how Honda price their cars but they must be living underground and have no idea about their competitors!

  • DON

I had been driving Honda car for nearly 20 years. I used to recommend my friends to buy Honda. One day, Honda australia decided to make themself to be a bigger Honda. They closed down a Honda dealer in North West of Sydney because if was too small and it did not suit to the Honda’s image. They jacked up the price as they believed that people would continue buying Honda because it is Honda. I am glad that I made a right decision and dumped Honda two years ago. I may buy Honda again if they bring in CRV diesel and stop charging premium price for thai built car.

  • Pauly

If they stop charging premium prices for Thai built cars, which we have a free trade agreement with.

The prices being asked are as if the Aussie dollar has not changed for the past 10 years.

I seriously hope with the upcoming CR-Z, new CR-V, new Civic Hatch and Sedan that they rethink their pricing, spec levels and engine options.

The competition has well and truly caught up Honda Australia, you have been caught sleeping.

  • jono

$500 on accessories is joke. Honda initially wanted $350 just for odyssey mat. In the end, got for free.

  • http://caradvice oldeuro

bought a euro back in 03, got 125,000km on it now. still enjoy driving it. have driven it pretty hard over the years. never had an issue with it. thing is only worth about $10k now but will prob keep it for another 25,000km. love it. not sure about the new model… heavier, same engine, same trans…

  • FINALLY!

Hey the Honda Accord Euro is now on special sale for $29,990 (manual, drive-away!) since 1/Dec/2011! Is this the first time the Euro has been sold under $30k??

That’s good news for honda fans/buyers… and more competition for rivals. And with the recent facelift and added goodies like integrated USB audio… let’s hope Honda can push out more Euros! :-)
