Citroen 3CV to make a return in 2013

Citroen is said to be working on a new Citroen 3CV model inspired by the original Citroen 2CV and 3CV. The new model will slot between the Citroen C1 and the larger Citroen C3 hatch.

The Citroen 3CV, or Trois Chevaux, was a people's car which offered surprising levels of interior space and practicality while also showcasing a very cushy and comfy ride. The new Citroen 3CV will offer similar traits only in a more funky DS3-style layout.

It's understood the new Citroen 3CV will be built on the PSA PF1 platform, which underpins various small Peugeot and Citroen hatches. It will also use a hybrid powertrain, possibly being the first hybrid to ever be formed from the French platform.

As for the styling, it's a bit too early for concrete details but the new Citroen 3CV design could take inspiration from the Citroen REVOLTe Hybrid Concept first shown at the 2009 Paris Motor Show. Jean-Marc Gales, chief of PSA, recently said in a CAR report,

"This car is all about wellbeing. It devotes abundant space to the passengers, is so relaxed that we may even cap the top speed, and will be a style statement in the best tradition of the brand."

As mentioned, the new model is said to join the lineup some time in 2013. We'll keep you updated with official details as soon as they are released. What do you think? Is there appeal?
