Peugeot 308, 508 e-HDi micro-hybrids on sale in Australia
Peugeot has launched its ultra-efficient micro-hybrid diesel technology in Australia, with the first examples of the Peugeot 308 e-HDi and Peugeot 508 e-HDi now in local showrooms.
Peugeot’s e-HDi technology is available in the 308 Series II Access hatch and Touring wagon models, as well as the 508 Active sedan.
Both models are powered by an 82kW/270Nm 1.6-litre diesel engine. The 508 e-HDi returns a combined cycle fuel consumption of 4.4 litres/100km and average CO2 emissions of 115g/km. The 308 e-HDi promises to be even sharper, with a combined figure of 4.2 litres/100km and emissions of 109g/km (4.3 litres/100km and 112g/km for the Touring).
The most fuel efficient non-e-HDi 308 model – the 2.0 HDi – uses 4.9/5.3 litres/100km combined (hatch/wagon). The 508 2.0 HDi uses 5.7 litres/100km on the combined cycle.
Both 308 e-HDi models are $3000 cheaper than the 2.0 HDi models, while the 508 e-HDi is $5500 cheaper than the 508 2.0 HDi.
The micro-hybrid models incorporate a number of fuel-saving technologies, including a second-generation start-stop system, brake energy recuperation, boost system with super capacitor for efficient restarts, semi-automatic transmission with optimised gear ratios, and low rolling-resistance tyres.
Peugeot says the e-HDi models are six per cent more efficient than conventional diesel models over the combined cycle and up to 15 per cent cleaner in heavy traffic.
