HDT Special Vehicles VL/VE Group A Plus Pack Retro Commodore

HDT Special Vehicles has launched the final vehicle in its Heritage Series of VE-based retro racer Commodores, arguably saving the best and most historic for last.

The VL/VE Group A Plus Pack is the sixth in HDT’s born-again range, paying homage to the company’s founder, Peter Brock, and his Holden VL Commodore SS Group A that won Bathurst in 1987.

Perhaps the most exciting part of the new VL/VE Plus Pack is the inclusion of Brock’s infamous ‘Energy Polariser’. The controversial device – a small box of crystals and magnets that supposedly improved performance and handling by ‘aligning the molecules’ in the vehicle – led to the split between Holden and Brock in 1987.

Along with the polariser, the VL/VE Group A Plus Pack includes a 350kW/610Nm engine performance package, HDT-modified Bilstein suspension, custom body kit with bonnet scoop, original Peppermint Red body paint, Harrop performance brake package, 20-inch wheels and tyres, Heritage interior, HDT build plate and Peter Brock signature.

The NSW-based HDT Special Vehicles operation will build no more than 250 VL/VE Retro models. The package costs $43,000 and can be applied to a Holden Commodore SS or SS-V – resulting in a total vehicle price of around $90,000-$100,000.

Other models in HDT Special Vehicles’ range include the VC Retro, VC/VE Retro 30th Anniversary, VH Retro, VK Group A Retro and the VK Group 3 Retro.

What do you think? Is the HDT VL/VE Group A Plus Pack a fitting tribute to Brock and his Bathurst winner? Let us know in the comments section below.
