2014 BMW M3 spied on the Nurburgring again

BMW has been spotted once again testing a prototype version of the next BMW M3. The new version will launch in sedan form first, with the new coupe possibly set for an 'M4' badge later on.

The BMW M3 will initially be available as a sedan. With the new BMW 3 Series coupe and convertible range rumoured to be called the BMW 4 Series, some have suggested the BMW M4 badge could debut on the upcoming high-performance coupe and convertible versions.

There's still no word on what sort of punch this new M3 will pack, in terms of engine configuration or even how many cylinders it will have. The most popular, and probably most likely power source, is a straight-six engine similar to the one used in the smaller BMW 1 Series M Coupe.

If this is the case, it would obviously produce more power and torque than the 1 M. There has been talks of BMW working on a new triple turbo version of the engine which could help bolster power figures, with the third turbo possibly being an electric item.

BMW also submitted a patent for a new turbocharged V6 design recently, showcasing sequential turbocharging technology. This engine is believed to be another candidate for the new M3.
