2012 BMW 3 Series M Sport package revealed

By Tim Beissmann |

Hot on the heels of the all-new 2012 BMW 3 Series unveiling, the wraps have come off the new model’s performance-themed M Sport package.

The new aero package gives the new 3 Series a more aggressive face, incorporating the dramatic flowing character lines that preview the upcoming M3.

The 2012 BMW 3 Series M Sport scores 18-inch light-alloy wheels, M Sport suspension and BMW Individual high-gloss Shadowline trim.

The theme continues inside with unique cloth/Alcantara sports seats, blue-accent trim inserts, and a number of ‘M’ themed highlights including leather steering wheel, manual gearstick, doorsill finishers and driver’s footrest.

Optional features on top of the M Sport package include 19-inch alloys, a new M paint shade and blue-finished brakes.

BMW Australia’s Michelle Lang said timing of the M Sport package was not yet confirmed for Australia, although she suggested it would be reasonable to expect it a few months after the launch of the 3 Series sedan range, which is scheduled to go on sale locally early in the second quarter of 2012.

Meanwhile, Ms Lang said BMW Australia “definitely” expects the all-new 3 Series Touring (wagon) models to arrive in local showrooms before the end of next year.

Now that’s more like it BMW!!!!

I’m so down with the whole new aggressive exterior look and now even the interior has a track feel to it finally, not your typical bmw “suits lounge”.

Better than the jowls on the non-M models.

I’m liking the old school steering wheel!

  • HJP

This sport’s new steering wheel looked too thin. I prefer the old sport’s steering wheel.

front needs to be more agressive

Now that’s just ugly! Bad front end and a cheap looking interior. Seriously how can anyone think this looks good? BMW might make the best chassis and some of the best engines in the world, but they desperately need a new designer.

I had high hope on this new 3 series. May be too high of hope…

The new 3 series including the M is not bad but just looks ordinary. Just didn’t have the Wow factor, if you compared to the Audis and Mercs.

I’ll reserve my view until I saw it in real metal. The Mercs C-Class coupe looks real good in flesh metal. I’ll see if this 3 series would do the same.

The new 3 series is ungly and the M sport kit makes it worse. They need a totaly different out look on the design. And they also need a car to take on the Focus as the 1 series isn’t the one.

  • M

Would expect the M-kit appearance continues to look closely like the real M style…will be keeping my current M3…not really a fan of the new style

    Looks great!

Nice job BMW, this 3 series looks sporty, aggressive and elegant.
