Toyota FT-86 racecar spy photos

By Alborz Fallah |

You guessed it, another day, another set of Toyota FT-86 spy photos. The sports car which has been “coming soon” since Moses delivered his commandments might actually be here… soon.

These photos are of the FT-86 racecar which is set to compete in the German VLN series on the Nürburgring in a few hours time.

This is the second time Toyota has used the series to show off a prototype of an upcoming model, having done the same thing with the Lexus LF-A.

With the Tokyo Motorshow only a few weeks away, the final version of the FT-86 is expected to be finally unveiled before year’s end. Perhaps then we will actually know how much power and torque it has and most importantly, what it will actually look like.

Toyota’s marketing department has made the most out of promoting the upcoming sportscar, which has been good for  rebuilding Toyota’s sporty credentials but at the same time has brought on rather high expectations.

Like most of you, we’re also highly anticipating Subaru’s version of the car and hoping that there will be an STI edition of the rear-wheel drive coupe.

I don’t think the wing is big enough.

  • Mopo

No more FT-86 stories unless its to announce its on sale date.

    • Indiana Jones

Yea The AE-86 is a Legend.

      This is a Myth.

  • Baddass

You can easily see the shape of the lights and other styling details so I don’t know why they bother covering it up still.

    • nucnik

So people can still hope it doesn’t look as bland as the overall shape leads me to believe.

Eurgh, not a big fan of the proportions on that side view at all

    Scion FR-S concept for me

    • ki

I know. Why is it so hard for them to just release it exactly the way the Scion FR-S concept looked? Why do they have to water down the design? sad.

Guarantee you that this will be nothing more than a RWD Camry Coupe… If and when it gets here…

  • Chris

The gestation period has been so long with this car it already looks outdated. Has the proportions of the last model Celica or Integra. More than likely will drive about as good. This car is only going to work if the keep the price super low.

  • UMWHAT

    honestly looks pretty bland

  • Moe

I want a factory twin turbo version

The only problem I have with Japanese cars is that their brakes are very sensitive & Touchy..

I’ve driven Euro’s, G.M, Ford & even the 2011 Elentra and the brakes were far less sensitive.. Better or worst.. I don’t know…

  • Dragan

I think when the car is wrapped in a metallic colour the over-all shape is going to look much more interesting, it looks bland at the momment as you can’t see the real detail

  • anonymous

FR-S concept makes this one look like a family car. BIG LET DOWN

  • Vince

Look at those tiny tyres… boo.

  • sriki

i cant believe its so bland. if thats the case when its released officially aswell, then all i can say is let it hit the market and we will hit back.

  • bobin

    hehe, shopping trolley rear wing!

I think people are getting sick and tired of hearing about the FT-86. So many prtotypes have bene issued, I think this car will need to be put into production sooner rather than later or people will move away from it.
