2008 Holden Colorado range and pricing

By George Skentzos |

GM Holden has revealed its newest addition to the light commercial vehicle market with the new Holden Colorado – set to replace the existing Rodeo.

2008 Holden Colorado

Holden has been forced to scrap the Rodeo namesake following a trademark dispute after the separation of Isuzu from parent company General Motors.

The new Colorado features an extensive model range offering consumers a wide choice of body styles, powertrains and specifications.

There are three engines on offer in the Colorado range: one diesel and two petrol.

2008 Holden Colorado

The first is a 3.0-litre four-cylinder turbo diesel engine delivering peak power of 120kW and 360Nm at 1800rpm.

From more familiar territory, the 3.6 litre Alloytec V6 petrol engine also features in the range alongside a smaller 2.4 litre four-cylinder petrol engine.

The flagship LT-R sports variant is available with either two-wheel or all-wheel drive, featuring sports bars, soft tonneau cover, side steps, front fog lamps, 16 inch alloy wheels and sports interior trim.

“The Colorado is built tough with up to three tonnes of towing capability. With over 30 combinations of model, powertrain, cabin, ride height and body style, there’s a Colorado to tackle any job,” GM Holden Marketing Manager, Teresa Basile.

Standard safety features include driver and passenger airbags across the range whilst ABS with EBD is fitted to LT-R and all LX 4×4 variants.

  • Tomas79

Hmmm… Got to say, better looking then the older rodeo.
But the U.S colorado, i find even more attractive!!

  • Reckless1

Colorado by name, Rodeo by nature.

Surely not much will be different?

The prices look identical, the current Rodeo range has 2.4, 3.0. and 3.6 engines…..

  • Richo

Reckless – it’s basically a major mid-life upgrade of the rodeo, just with a different name as per aformentioned legal dispute

  • Gibbo

Its just a different set of head lights to make it look a little diferent from the Isuzu version of the same ute due out here in October.

  • Austin

Why oh why do our vehicles need to be named after AMERICAN states, as if we don’t already follow the yanks enough. How about the Holden Longreach or the Holden Tanami or something?

  • AC COBRA

Colorado, how American can you get, its the worst name for an Aussie pick up ever.

  • Reckless1

AC Cobra, you seem confused. You don’t like the American name Colorado, but you love the American name pick up.

You should sop smoking whatever it is you are on.

  • Reckless1

Austin, you seem confused as well.

Holden Longreach – Ford would readily allow that, I’m sure – NOT.

You need to stop smoking too.

  • Tomas79

Austin, why do we even need to rebadge american cars as holdens?

  • GhisGT

Thomas – the same reason everything else is, for us Aussies.

    Focus, Camry ect.

  • Tomas79

    GhisGT,
    What a wastefull overhead…
By the way, i dont see how ford focus is rebadged for aussies? It’s ford focus too in europe?!!

  • f1worldchamp

You don’t like Coloado ’cause it’s American, but I have never heard anyone complain about the name Calais.

  • realcars

    Looks very purposeful.

  • Millatime

Rodeo/Colorado doesn’t matter the name, just ask anyone that’s owned a V6 Rodeo about the fuel economy. Colorado continues with the same engines and the V6 will average (unladen and not towing!) 20 litres per 100 kms!!!

If you’re considering buying one save yourself a considerable amount of pain and just give all your money to a worthy charity instead.

The end result is the same (pennyless) but at least you’ll feel good about yourself for doing some good in the world.

  • Frosty

Its amed Colorado for the same reason other cars use the same name in overseas markets for example Camry, Focus and especially when the Ford Courier got renamed the Ranger. These are all world cars and to make the cars identifiable world wide they are given the same name everywhere. Rodeo was never going to be used after the split despite our Rodeo being kown as D Max overseas because Isuzu have a Rodeo built which we called the Frontera when we sold it here. Also regarding the same name being used everywhere it saves the Car manufacturers money by not having to pay money to register different names in different countries for the same car. Colorado has been around a while ad it saved GM from having to register and pay for a new name just for the Aus market.

  • GhisGT

    Tomas79:

GM or Holden, it doesn’t really matter, it’s all the same brand.

Focus might have a Ford badge on the outside, Volvo badges are everywhere else. I should know, the missus has a XR5 :)

  • Wheelnut

Quote – F1WorldChamp: You don’t like Coloado ’cause it’s American, but I have never heard anyone complain about the name Calais.

I know but have a look at the type of people that live in Colorado USA; compared to those from Calias France….
the difference is the same as Redfern and Monaco!

  • JW

Holden’s brand has no cohesion. Their cars all look like they came from different planets.

Partly because they sort of were, being under different original brands…

  • realcars

ALL V6 light truck utes chew the juice even the four potters!

    LPG Falcon ute anyone?

  • Hendrik

GhisGT, i assume your talking about the engine, thats the only volvo part in the car.

And the XR5 (ST) is the only model to have the volvo engine in it (2.5l Turbo 5) too.

  • Joober

looks ok but want to see the interior…, Im still waiting for a canyonero to come out lol.

  • Andrew M

    Realcars is right on.

all Japper utes chew the juice.

one of the guys that works for me has a 4cyl japper ute, and the consumption rate of my LPG falcon ute is about equal with his. and thats LPG consumption!!!

needless to say mine blows his 4 potter away on a $ per K basis

    and on the Colorado,
    it looks miles better.
it now jumps up the looks scale quite a bit.
thank god they ridded the Cadilac headlights

  • Tomas79

    Realcars,
Does the lpg falcon come with a 4wd and a transfer case??

  • BOSSCR

Meh, looks like the old model has been hit with the Daewoo stick. Give me a D40 Navara….

  • Luke GT singing to himself.

Toyota used the Colorado monika on the UK versions of the Landcruiser Prado (silly name) surpirsed they not having a pop at Holden.

  • http://tvr topdog

Thats the same thing that come to mind it looks like a daewoo

  • Dlr1

The new face is an improvement on the last one. The big question is have they managed to improve the build quality? The RA series was a major step backwards from the TF/R9 series that finished in 2002, and it hasn’t improved at all in the last 5 years. Also the 4 cylinder unit is so far off the pace as far as performance is concerned and the V6 has the worst reputation for fuel consumption of any of its rivals. Rating: e for effort.

  • ultimatefarmer

    great lookin ute
now it really can take on the navara’s for the looks factor

  • Frosty

Joober, some interior photos in the Colorado microsite attached to http://www.holden.com.au. Well theres a interior shot of the dash, centre console and front seats anyway.

  • Andrew M

    Thomas,
do all jap utes come with a transfer case?

    and also,
has dingo used up all of his alias’s yet?
when you see him on a visit to the mirror, perhaps you could ask him for us……..

your comment of the transfer case relates in no way to what realcars said.
perhaps you should drop the one eyed paranoid act

the thing is, all the Japper utes chew the juice and are like pigs to drive (the diesels are almost an exception though)

the only hope for a “Jap ute” to be good to drive will come when the aussie designed Ranger platform hits the road. but even then im not holding my breath, but will be interesting all the same

  • http://- crouchy

hmmmm… there is just nothing that brings holden cars together! They all look completely different and i dont like it.

What ford and mazda have done is the way to go. The problem is that this will never happen with holden. Beacause really, like GM gives that much of a shit?

This does look like another holden actually… the spy photos of the “NEW” Barina/Kalos.

And the name? Tradies arent gonna rock up to the work site and wanna put up with “whats that american piece of s***? why didnt you get a hiiiilux or a rodeeeeeeo? ****”

Holden rapidly heading down a steep hill im afraid.

  • Tomas79

    Andrew M,
I realize Dingo has bitch slapped you so bad, you have become paranoid, and now see him everywhere!!
Anyway, thats another issue, and I don’t wanna be going on about it here too!!

As for your question, yes most jap 4×4 utes do come with a transfer case!! What’s your point??

  • Tomas79

I still reckon the original Chevy Colorado looks much better, the holden grill just dulled it down!

  • Duck

“Where’s your Coloooooorado mate?” It’s not the same, hey Crouchy mate? :(

  • growcanola

Wait till China starts sending their cars down under
Great Wall Motors makes soem pretty good utes and at half the price of the overpriced overated Hilux

  • realcars

    RTV has a locking diff!

As sure as night follows day all Jap v6 utes are guzzlers.
Four potters aren’t a lot better.

Even the Rodeo Alloytec is a lot thirstier than equivalent powered Commodore ute. It’s all about gearing and tune.

  • realcars

Referring to comparable 2 wheel drive japper v6 utes.

The 4 by 4 v6 jappers are even worse if that is possible.

Must be weight and low gearing and tune to produce higher torque at lower RPM. This is the case with the difference in tune of the rodeo and commodore alloytechs.

  • Duck

The Holden Website has completely taken off the Rodeo and replaced it with the Colorado now.

By the way the interior is not exactly the same, it’s been modified a bit from the Rodeo.

  • Wheelnut

Wonder what will happen to the Rodeo/Colorado when the VF Crewman is released in a couple of years…. Wonder if the VF crewman will be similar in size to the GMC Denali Concept which was also designed by Holden and looks to be almost the same size as a Hilux SR-5

  • paulz

they still haven’t changed the front bumper to suit a bullbar fitting, in the rodeo it has to be cut in half to fit a genuine one!

  • utechic

Well being a holden girl through and through, i must say good on ya holden and i will be on my way to get one of the dual cab 4X4′s real soon!!!!

  • BIG RIGGIN

    I love lamp

  • niko

Dont know about fuel economy, looks , american or not, isuzu or not, jap , aussie , german, GM, yank all the rest but have had a 2003 Rodeo LX 2003 crewcab and am ready to upgrade.I will say it NEVER! let be down. I bashed it smashed it crashed it numerous times, like a Tonka truck and it just kept on goin.A real plus 4 the truck, TOUGH AS NAILS. My only concern, is whether or not i will be able to fit GAS INJECTION to the Colorado as was my 2003 Rodeo, if so IM BUYIN IT!

  • niko

Whats in a name guys, some of the names we give our kids, we should be re thinkin now a days LOL

  • Marsie

Fuel economy – Learn how to DRIVE people (unless your a Kelly, Skaifey or have to prove something)
Wow – it looks kinda nice – does it have a nice stereo and come in pretty colours?
Does Ford have a crew cab Falcon ute? Do Ford or Holden have a 4wd crew cab ute? or turbo diesel version?
Some people buy what they think will impress.
Some of us buy what is practical for us.
My experience with RA Rodeo is – ****. I have a 99 Rodeo – ****ing awsome. Yes I would love a HSV 427 but if the new Colorado stacks up for what my family needs – :)

  • Mat

Yeah i agree with the hilux comment being overpriced but the Colorado is up there too.Too expensive for a holden and how does the diesel rate economically.

  • Paul

It seems like they have changed the tune,Football Meat Pies Kangaroos and Korean Cars !! is this new ute a Daewoo in Holden clothing??

  • Paul

sorry, my fault, I forgot ALL rubbish now comes from Thialand.

  • GTekR

G’day all. I’m on the market for a ute right now. Its a toss between the ’08 Rodeo, the new Colorado, or Hilux. Have and still do own a ’04 Rodeo. Its been a great truck and has been lots of fun and reliable, tough as guts. Would like to try todays Hilux but reluctant to give toyota 10grand extra for a much overrated truck thats gonna do the same job. 2 years ago i read in a car magazine toyota’s main priority was to half production costs….hasn’t done me as a buyer any good. So am i being ripped off? Hilux is tough and reliable they say at the dealerships….so is the rodeo. All of a sudden though the rodeo has an almost 50grand bill…i wrecken they’re all losing it. People should stand forth and not buy for a while. Let the ass fall out of the market, after all buyers create it.

  • XR8 tradie

marsie ford dose make a crew cab it’s called a focus, you buy a ute for a reason, to load it up, if you want a car to pick the kids up buy a sedanor a tarago, attention FORD and HOLDEN stop sacraficing tray space for seats….

  • jacko

Are you all morons. The v6 is an Aussie engine.
Buy the diesel. It has double the fuel economy and pulls like a train.

  • http://n/a Don

I am no expert but.1) POWER TO WEIGHT RATIO
    2) POWER BAND OF ENGINE
    3) DIFF RATIOS
    4) ENGINEERING SHOP FOR
    DIFFERENT CAMSHAFT
    5) RECALIBRATE FUEL TO AIR RATIO TO
    COMBUSTION CHAMBER
end result is Jap light truck what does 9 not 20 litres/100 km, me thinks somebody not trying or just plain dumb

  • http://n/a Don

on the question of dumb google ‘agenda 21 for dumbies’ the loonies have taken over the asylumn for sure

  • http://g.fellows52@live.com.au GRAHAME

I Just brought a 2011 Colorado L-TR DUEL CAB 3 LITRE TURBO DIESEL. which i am very happy with. i have been going to moreton & fraser island for 30 years & have driven many differant makes & models of 4WD over these years. which includes toyota navara ford & have no doubt that the colorado is as good or even better then the named brans & has no problems handling the soft sand on these islands never got bogged but did see toyotas & navaras bogged so why pay a lot more for latter.
