2012 Volvo S60, V60 upgraded: New petrol and diesel engines

By Tim Beissmann |

The 2012 Volvo S60 sedan/V60 wagon ranges have been boosted in Australia with the arrival of two new downsized turbocharged engines and a number of additional features.

The first new engine is the 2.0-litre D3 diesel, which produces 120kW of power and 400Nm of torque. In the S60, it returns combined cycle fuel consumption and emissions of 5.9 litres/100km and 155g/km CO2 respectively, while the V60 achieves 6.0 litres/100km and 160g/km CO2. The D3 diesel is teamed with a six-speed automatic transmission.

Also new is the 1.6-litre T4 turbocharged petrol engine, which is now the smallest engine in the range. It generates 132kW of power and 240Nm of torque, and returns a combined cycle fuel consumption figure of 7.4 litres/100km in both S60 and V60. The T4 is paired to a six-speed dual-clutch transmission.

The new engines join the D5, T5 and T6 powerplants already available in the range, which carry over unchanged into the revised MY12 line-up.

Standard features in the D3 and T4 models include 17-inch alloy wheels, electric driver’s seat, rain-sensing wipers, rear parking sensors, City Safety, and the High Performance audio system with seven-inch screen and Bluetooth audio streaming.

The Teknik models add Volvo Navigation System, Blind Spot Information System, Active Bending Lights, headlight cleaners, chrome front highlights, electric front passenger seat, and a revised instrument cluster.

MY12 T5 R-Design models get 18-inch alloy wheels, and all T6 models come standard with Volvo Guard Alarm system, keyless start, Blind Spot system, Active Bending Lights, front parking sensors and a rear lip spoiler.

All V60 models now score integrated child booster seats for the two outer rear positions, while the T6 Teknik and R-Design models round out the upgrades with the addition of reversing camera, and Adaptive Cruise Control including Collision Warning with Full Auto Brake, Pedestrian Detection and Queue Assist.

Between now and the end of the year, Volvo Car Australia is offering the S60 T4 from $49,950 driveaway and the V60 T4 from $52,950 driveaway. Both packages include five years warranty, free scheduled servicing and free roadside assistance.

I’ve got to admit it but the S/V60 really do make the 3 series look meaningless!! I mean they have faster engines, roomier interiors and the look better and best of all are alot cheaper!

      I do not know which one you talking? BMW 320d $59,700 +ORC, Volvo S60 D5 $57,950.

      • F1MotoGP

of course Volvo price plus ORC

        • Lucii Pooky

Yes F1, but the 320d is a rival of the D3, and when optioned to the same extent the 320d is going to be around 65+

          • F1MotoGP

Yes you are right. I do not know Volvo model well.

I think the D5 vs 320d is fairly valid in terms of performance, considering how much heavier the S60 D5 is over the 320d (some ~450kg!). You do get more kit with the Volvo though.

    • R-Series

The Brand is trashed already – if you drive one – Your a “Volvo Driver”

  • Plkerin

Buy the mondeo there cheaper with the exact same running gear with more options. Better value for your dollar. Bmw’s are over rated. But diesel on all models only.
