Hyundai Veloster Turbo by ARK Performance headed for SEMA

By Tim Beissmann |

If you’re like us and have been hanging out for a turbocharged version of the Hyundai Veloster, the wait is almost over. A Hyundai Veloster Turbo tuned by aftermarket expert ARK Performance will light up the 2011 SEMA Show in Las Vegas on November 1.

Hyundai is yet to confirm the Veloster Turbo for production, although a number of spy photos and international reports suggest it is on its way in the not-too-distant future. This custom version adds more fuel to the fire.

The ARK Performance Veloster scores a custom twin-scroll turbocharger that increases overall power to 150kW. That’s a significant step-up from the standard car’s naturally aspirated 103kW/167Nm 1.6-litre petrol engine.

ARK plans to make no fewer than 47 modifications to the show car, including everything from interior, exterior and mechanical enhancements.

The most obvious is the unique two-tone paint job, which combines flat grey with fluoro highlights.

Almost every exterior panel has been beefed up, with the low front splitter, pumped wheel arches, quad exhaust outlets and dramatic rear wing among the highlights.

There’s also a full rally-style roll cage, a completely overhauled audio system and Alcantara upholstery across the hard surfaces. (We’ve included the full list of modifications is below.)

ARK Performance Inc. owner, Ted Lee, said the Hyundai Veloster’s distinctive design and dynamic architecture made it “an ideal car for enthusiasts”.

“Our ARK Performance Veloster will bridge the realm between an affordable sports car and an extreme motor sports vehicle,” Mr Lee said.

The Hyundai Veloster will land in Australian showrooms before the end of the year.

Seriously cool looking car. Although I don’t quite get the idea behind making it look like a race car, roll cage and all. Then putting a “custom audio setup” in it.

  • Harry

I don’t really get the point of huge flares on a FWD car, if it has 335s on the back what is the point?

    • bobin

wider tyres and wider wheelbase, the car would look pretty stupid with the wheels sticking out the side ;)

      • Handsome Al

What he means is that it does not reduce understeer but instead increase it as the rear wheel is getting larger.. Get it..

  • Pauly

Hyundai are going to kick ass soon!

Hyundai Australia will be sending us at the end of this year and next year:

    Veloster
    Veloster Turbo
    Genusis Coupe

    Should be great!

Now if only Honda released the CRZ with a Turbo and released an Integra to take on the Genisis then we will have some true competition!

    • Monk

If only Honda released… anything interesting at all!

      • Henry

I agree the only honda i find interesting is the Legend!

    • FF

huh.. honda doesnt even have a RWD.. how can it compete with Genesis coupe..?

      • Nissan

Um then what driveline does the NSX or the S2000 have?

        • Thrillhouse

          Both are ancient history.

  • Ff

Both are AWD correct me if im wrong… But honda have ceased their production as the sales were too low.. and with NSW honda made it very expensive so no one was willing to pay that much with still a Honda badge on it. Dun knw wat honda was thinkin that time lol

    • Baddass

Neither are AWD. The NSX is MR and the S2000 is FR.

  • Henry

Did anyone know that hyundai does not have a car with less than 4 stars ANCAP test onsale brandnew?

    • Matt

      What’s the iLoad?

  • SpoonSV

    Possible World Rally Car??

  • Justin

Saw one of these in the city the other night and I must say I was pleasantly suprised by its looks. It looked really fresh in the metal and I cant wait to see more of these

  • David

Hyundai should rethink the front end of the standard veloster. This it what it should look like .
