What is the coolest car brand? An organisation in the UK called the Coolbrands Council has named Aston Martin, for the fifth time in six years, the coolest brand in the UK in a recent judging stint.

According to the Coolbrands Council, Aston Martin is on top of other brands that have also been perceived as having high levels of coolness, including Apple, Harley Davidson, Rolex and Bang & Olufsen, all ranked as the top five. Ferrari was the only other carmaker in the top ten judging, sitting at number seven.

The brands were ranked in regards to carrying the most cachet with consumers, as well as brands which gave off the most positive resonance with the public based on elements such as style, innovation, authenticity, originality and desirability. Stephen Cheliotis, CEO of The Centre for Brand Analysis and chairman of the CoolBrands Council, recently spoke about Aston Martin, saying,

“Smooth, sexy and sophisticated; British built, high quality and hand finished, let’s be honest, young or old, male or female, opinion former or British public, who wouldn’t aspire to own what is truly the coolest car on the road?”

The Coolbrands Council has been running in the UK since 2001. The Coolbrands top 10:

1. Aston Martin
2. Apple
3. Harley-Davidson
4. Rolex
5. Bang & Olufsen
6. BlackBerry
7. Google
8. Ferrari
9. Nike
10. YouTube

Nice, the car aint bad either…

Not sure how Rolex became to be on that list… maybe not the coolest, but probably the most recognised watch brand?

  • Johnno

Maserati anyone? Understated passion and elegance.

  • Baddass

I think modern Aston Martins are indeed very cool and very beautiful, but I can’t say the same for the V12 Zagato’s looks. Something is just not right.

  • ze scheister

    nice chassis there love

Being named on a cool list makes you incredibly uncool.
    Look at those other entries.

“cool” is such a funny term. I know it’s been said a thousand times but you’re right, being called “cool” isn’t “cool”.

All I see on that list a whole bunch of corporations. I don’t think it’s fair to have Aston Martin or Ferrari on it to be honest.

I mean Apple, there’s nothing cool about Apple anymore, sure most people have an I Phone (I do) but it’s not just a part of life. It’s like being on facebook, when you’re Mum, Aunty, Grandmother, Dad, Boss and such are all on facebook, it’s no longer cool. Same as google, the first time I heard my 60 year old father tell me to google something, it’s immediately become part of society, it’s no longer cool.

And Rolex, there’s nothing cool about a rolex besides the fact that everyone knows it cost you a truckload (I know you get what you pay for, but we’re talking about image here). Bang and Olufsen, I mean seriously, a great quality sound system is cool, but there’s nothing cool about building speakers.

If I was to answer the questions, first company that would come to mind is Red Bull. If it involves speed or danger, I guarantee you that red bull are involved on some level. Associating with some of the coolest athletes in the world. They’re Cool by associtation…

I agree with you; And to make matters worse look at the some of the people who decided these cool brands.

        They call themselves…
“CoolBrands Council” -I stuffy departmental name of an organization if ever I heard one?

      • Rex

To be perfectly honest, brands alone are simply not cool. A product can be cool, no doubt about that, but the next (unfortunate) step of a brand being considered cool is some bogan slapper wearing a t-shirt with a giant Calvin Klein or D&G logo plastered on the front.

agreed, Mr Bond your car is ready for you!

  • Seymour Butts

“Ferrari was the only other carmaker in the top ten judging, sitting at number seven.”

    7. Google
    8. Ferrari
    9. Nike

Which is it, 7 or 8???

  • dadar

I’m sorry, but Blackberry and Youtube isn’t on my “cool brands” list..
How about Bose? Leica? Burberry? Ralph Lauren? Well, down to personal preference I guess.

But Aston Martin topping the list? OH GOD…. No surprises there. =) =)

  • Marc

I don’t care what anyone else says – the biggest worry in this story is that Harley Davidson is considered cool at all, let alone above Ferrari!

  • Syd

In that list of 10, only Aston Martin and Ferrari are genuinely cool. The rest is over rated junk especially Apple, BlackBerry, Google and Youtube. Nothing related to anything IT is cool.

That IT rubbish changes too much and too quickly so how can it be cool? If it was that cool, things don’t have to change so much. Someone buys a Apple product for 6 months and it is already outdated and uncool.

Someone buys an Aston Marton and 10 years later they still love that same car! As do their friends who understand cars and style

A guy who works up the road from me has a Rapide and I admit I’m jealous, because I couldn’t afford to own one, let alone buy one, but I look at it every day when I walk past and I have to say (and the Aston lovers will hate me for saying) I don’t really like it, it doesn’t visually excite me like a Vantage, DB9 or even a DB7.
