Ford Falcon EcoLPi matches petrol Falcon’s five-star ANCAP safety rating
The newly released LPG-powered Ford Falcon EcoLPi meets the same five-star safety standard as the conventional petrol-powered models.
Australia’s independent crash tester, the Australasian New Car Assessment Program (ANCAP), confirmed the sedan and ute variants of the Falcon EcoLPi meet to the same maximum five-star safety level that was achieved by the rest of the range when tested in 2008.
The Falcon sedan scored 34.61 points out of a possible 37, while the ute was awarded 33.58 points. This compares favourably with its direct rival, the Holden Commodore, which scored 33.45 points in sedan and Sportwagon form, and 33.16 as a ute.
Ford recently announced the FG MkII upgrade to the Falcon, which will see safety increase even further with a number of features added to much of the range.
The Falcon FG MkII XT, G6, XR6 and XR6 Turbo will get curtain airbags as standard, matching the safety package previously only offered by the G6E and G6E Turbo models.
The Falcon FG MkII XL Ute gets a significant upgrade, with the addition of side airbags, Dynamic Stability Control (DSC), traction control and emergency brake assist.
ANCAP has also confirmed the all-new Ford Focus and the Lexus CT 200h have been awarded the maximum five-star safety ratings, following equivalent crash tests by Euro NCAP.
