BMW X4 confirmed by BMW CEO: report

BMW CEO Norbert Reithofer has confirmed the BMW X4 is on the way. The new model will take the mould of a smaller BMW X6-type vehicle, showcasing a jumped-up four-door coupe SUV layout.

Rumours of the new model have been going around about a BMW X4 for over a year now, but this is the first time we've heard official word that the model will exist. Reithofer recently confirmed with German publication Auto Motor und Sport that the model will join the line-up in the future.

Official details are yet to be announced but according to the German report, Reithofer says the BMW X4 will be approximately 4.65 metre long and feature a similar design layout to the BMW X6 (pictured).

As for the technical aspects, the new BMW X4 is expected to come with the same powertrain options as seen in the BMW X3, including the new 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine. All models are also expected to feature BMW's xDrive all-wheel drive system.

The new BMW X4 is said to be lined up for a launch some time in 2014. What do you think? Is there a market demand for the BMW X4? Feel free to give us your thoughts in the comments section below.
