2009 Honda NSX spy photos

Well, we all knew Honda wouldn’t let Nissan and Toyota enter the supercar market without some serious competition. Unlike the previous mid-engined NSX this prototype is running a front-mid engine, with its powerplant placed well behind the front wheels to ensure excellent weight distribution.

This should also allow the new NSX to offer 2+2 cabin accommodation, broadening its appeal – particularly in the USA. What that engine is remains very much rumours and conjecture. There’s talk of a high-revving naturally aspirated V10, which would fit in very comfortably with Honda’s Type R philosophy.

Honda’s not as obsessed as many by big horsepower outputs, but even so an output of 450 hp seems likely. Should such an engine be fitted to the sort of lightweight body as the previous NSX, the performance would be exceptional.

Four-wheel-drive, with rearward bias, is also rumoured, the handling expected to be controlled by a version of Honda’s electronic Super Handling All-Wheel Drive.

However we are not expecting much until 2009, Honda’s supercar is aiming to compete against rivals like Porsche’s 911 Turbo, the Ferrari F430 and the Lamborghini Gallardo as well as home competition like Nissan’s GT-R and Lexus LF-A.

Even with the camoflauge, this looks like a really good looking car.
Although it’s a shame they are moving away from MR
Cant wait!
revival of the Japanese supercars..
It looks a tad like the LF-A under camouflage….
I read somewhere that this prototype did and unofficial 7.38 around the ‘ring. If thats true, it should eclipse the GT-R by the time it is released. Should be a looker too.
Nissan and Lexus have really stepped it up a notch against the Germans. I’d like to see some official figures first though…
Awesome, i always thought Honda could do wonders if they used a real engine. Shame it had to come around in the time with these fuel prices.
They used small engines during the days of cheap petrol but now they are bumping it up.
I read that it will have AWD, hope that won’t make it GTR heavy, the NSX in its original form was quite a light weight sports car for its size
Are they going to break the heratige and run on boost?
Shape Looks great, park it next to Lambo’s Ferraris Maseratis and the average joe will think its part of them.
Looks really small compared to the previous model. Love that paint job, yes I know its camoflage.
that carn looks sweet as!!
Looks like a cross between a JZA80 Supra, a Current BMX Z4 Coupe and a Ferrari F430 – Me rikey vely much!
I also heard that it was using Hondas S.H-A.W.D (Super Handling All Wheel Drive – i’m not kidding!) as used in the current Legend, very nice indeed
Sorry *BMW not BMX! ha!
those BMX Z4 coupe are nice!! Haro!! hehe
yeah, I heard it beat the “wet” time that the GTR produced at the ring. You have factor in that this car, although rumoured to be 4wd, is still lighter… its a 2 seater to start with, the GTR V-spec would be the ideal comparo… considering the NSXs has always been priced higher than the previous GTRs…
gtr killer?
this is going to be an amazing car
honda are trying to compete with aston martin
i hope it comes out soon cant wait!!!
Honda’s an awesome Japanese car maker and i really hope they don’t die out due to the current global economic crisis. Heard Honda had some financial issues couple of months back also heard they are pulling the NSX project out. So many bad rumors floating around i don’t know which are true! All i know is, my first car was a 1.6 civic and i’m sure i’ll get my hands on one of those new NSX :D cheers to honda and fans!
@Mr Amazingly Handsome
The actual car is almost road ready. It’s been put into moth balls but has not been cancelled. At this point of time, keeping in mind the financial crisis or recession,Honda feel that it’s not wise business to bring out such a car now.
If you live in Australia it would be very, very unlikely that the new NSX would make it to our shores and there is still the dilemma whether the car should be a Honda or an Acura.
