Nissan launches GT-R Race Academy in UK

June 19, 2008 by George Skentzos

As though having pre-ordered a Nissan GT-R wasn’t exciting enough, UK customers are being treated to an innovative ‘Race Academy’ which could see them obtain their full racing license.

This opportunity allows GT-R customers to participate in Race Academy events at Silverstone, or the GT-R’s spiritual home – the Nurburgring in Germany.

Every GT-R customer is invited to take part in the events and get up close and personal with their new supercar before deliveries begin in March 2009.

The Race Academy offers one-on-one tuition and over 45 minutes behind the wheel, as well as an opportunity to learn how to drift in a Nissan 350Z.

“These tailor-made customer events will whet their appetite for a car which the world’s press is already hailing as one of the most capable all-round supercars on sale today, while at the same time bringing together passionate, enthusiastic GT-R fans.”

This is certainly a very generous offering from Nissan, with already more than 1,000 pre-orders for the new GT-R in the UK since April 2008.

  1. Thats a very kind gesture by Nissan.

You know what would be an even nicer gesture – confirming sales in Australia and taking orders!

  2. Joober says:

Could this be because of those crashes we seen when the car first came out….? Nissan hates seeing their baby in a pulp… and so do I

  3. There was only one or two reported cases, not too bad for a car that picks up speed so rapidly, and at least one of them was in the city.

I think Nissan sees that people will track this car and is giving people the chance to have a feel of it before taking delivery.

  4. No Name says:

    Oh how nice!

  5. Watto_Cobra says:

That’d be awesome driving ANYTHING let alone an R35 around “the ring”. I’ve done hundreds of laps of the Nurburgring in GT4. Love it.

  6. trackdaze says:

Icing on the cake really. You might be waiting a while if your at the end of the UK queue.

Money would be better spent on training all the knob jockeys driving R33 GT’s on how not to put telegraph pole dints in the sides of their cars.

  7. joober says:

Lol TrackDaze, but here in Melb its always a commie!

I think regardless every new owner of a GTR should get a complimentary advanced driving training, these cars are beasts that drivers should be weary of its potential…

  8. Richo says:

Yep, nice little pressie for buying a GTR, as if buying one wasn’t good enough in the first place! The fact the training is around the ring is even better! One question though, how can a japanese cars “spiritual home” be in Germany? anyway i’m nit picking

  9. George says:

The Nurburgring is the GT-R’s claim to fame Richo.

Nissan actually uses that exact line in their press release, I felt it was most definitely necessary to include it.

  10. Fluffy says:

So are they gonna have a proper manual Gtr or is it gonna be a paddle automatic Gtr if it is a proper manual Gtr is good but if is not I go play Granturimo on PS3 and change gear with the PS3 controller.
