2012 Hyundai Genesis Coupe spotted again

By Brett Davis |

Another image of the 2012 Hyundai Genesis has surfaced on the internet. This time we get a good look at the new model’s aggressive front end styling which takes the direction of Hyundai’s new design language.

As previously reported, the 2012 Hyundai Genesis Coupe will feature Hyundai’s new design language in the front end. This includes the new open-mouth front grille which is being used on various upcoming Hyundai models, and sharper headlights and spotlights compared with the existing model.

Although the existing model is not sold in Australia, Hyundai Australia has confirmed with CarAdvice that the next-generaiton Genesis sports coupe will be coming to local shores. Timing of the new model is yet to to be confirmed.

Pricing and specific details are also unconfirmed, but as far as overseas reports say, the new model will come in two different engine levels. There will be a 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder entry-level model, which could use an engine based on the new US-spec Hyundai Sonata (204kW/364Nm), as well as a range-topping 3.8-litre V6 model producing around 248kW and 294Nm.

All versions will come with a rear-wheel drive layout and are expected to be backed by, at least come with the option of, Hyundai’s new eight-speed automatic transmission.

We’ll be sure to provide full updates of the Australian-specification version as soon as details come to hand. What do you think of the new design? Is it something you’d like parked in your driveway?

Beautiful looking car. Well done to the design team

    • http://Zuboora.com Mohamad is right when he says

And I would love any car with the looks like that parked in my driveway

      • AndyGF

I agree, especially the 204kw four potter petrol. And its RWD too! The working mans supercar…

  • Rick

Can’t wait for these to come to australia

  • Rick

I love the design let’s just hope hyundai get the pricing right Given their mid $20000 price tag in the states the should be around the $30000 here and that’s allowing them to do the usual Aussie ripoff prices like every other car company here

    • o

Price the base model against the commodore and falcon and there is no reason why this couldn’t be one of hyundais best selling cars, chances are though they will price it at 50k

    • matt

No chance of 30k, the 4 cyl will be in the 40s, v6 in the 50s.

If we’re lucky, we might see the 4cyl at like $39,990 driveaway

  • Mr Gaspo

No thanks, it looks unattractive to me.

  • Grady

There were a quite a few of the current styled genesis coupes in SK when I was there. The photos don’t do it justice! The back looks real chunky and the tyres really fill out the arches nicely. They look a treat in black or white with black tinting and a little spoiler on the back.

  • Ff

Looks great. i think it can compete with Nissan GTR and Hyundai will rule all the way in Design / Performance / Reliablity with its Jap competitors.

    • http://Skat ScottyC

Ff, the GTR is in a different stratosphere all together than the Genesis and no one would cross shop one against the other. Your talking supercar v sportscar.

It does look awesome though and with these power outputs and rear drive it will do wonders for Hyundai’s reputation in this country.

  • Seymour Butts

248kw from a V6 is impressive, not exactly a torque monster though :(

    • Goodfa

I’d say that torque figure for the V6 is wrong. It probably should read 394nm when you consider that the 3.6 in the Commodore gets 350nm.

      • SunTailMoo

Could be a square bore design which means higher rev (hence high kw) and lower torque (honda style of engine design)…

    • idlebrain

I don’t know where CA got this figure but if you look at the output of 3.8 engine in Genesis sedan,

      it produce 333hp(about 245kw) and 291 lb-ft(about 394 N.M).

And I doubt if this new coupe will have lower number than the sedan.

  • Vid_Ghost

I would get one if i didnt have to worry about it being keyed, stolen or an old granny driving into me!

    • zandit

That could be said for any car, especially if you are in a dodgy neighbourhood.

  • Arabian knight

You look cheap by driving around in a hyundai (Korean)
You might as well add 5 thousand more a get a decent car . You even be able to buy the BMW 1 series coupe.

    • Davo

The 1 Series is ok if your a chick, not if your a bloke, its also alot smaller than the genesis coupe

      • Harry

last Hyundai coupe that comes to mind is the old Scoupe, I don’t think that is generally a car you would associate with blokes, or for that matter a Tiburon – great for hair dressers. If Hyundai wants to reinvent itself it will have to work pretty hard.

      • AndyGF

Haay! 1 Series Coupe for blokes, Convertible for the ladies…

      • Devil’s Advocate

        I wouldn’t really call the 1 series M coupe a “chick’s car”…

    • Noel

It wasn’t that long ago you looked cheap if you drove something from Japan. Hasn’t the world changed, the Japanese made the Europeans build far better cars, especially when the fight was taken up to them (Lexus), any driver of a current 7 series/ A8 / S class can thank Toyota for their cars having the features and build quality they have today.

  • Simon

It looks very good, good to see Hyundai are able to deliver a good lookign sports car, that will hopefully drive well, and affordable too. Would rather have this than the entry-level tiny BMW

  • bentagil

It looks good. Even if they put i30 engine to keep the price down, I think people will buy it.

  • “james”

this is the second hyundai i really like. The 145 was the first, and this is the second. Spot on with the front end i recon. top work. hyundai need to get the handling right on this!

  • i30

Looking fantastic! I would love to get one when it’s here!
I wish they bring this car with new DCT gearbox rather than 8 speed auto.

  • RB26

The 1 series coupe is a bit feminine…and the Genesis at least has much better exterior design than the 1 series (which definitely looks like
an after thought with it’s narrow width and awkward height…well far from sleek anyway)

With some nice aftermarket go fast bolt on s, the 2L turbo genesis could probably made to go quite good, even to take on a 135i

  • G

Front end reminds me of a Zenvo for some reason.

The car looks great and thank you for sharing this with us. I think the new model will be good to drive. Hyundai makes some lovely cars and most of the cars are good on the road as well. Well, many car companies are making this hybrid model and I think that in future the hybrid cars will be popular.

thank god they cleaned up the front, pitty they didn,t do more work on thne back. Esecially that ridiculous rear quarter window which spoils the entire look of the car.
