Infiniti to adopt Mercedes-Benz B-Class MFA platform

Mercedes-Benz and Infiniti have signed a new deal which will see Infiniti adopt the Mercedes-Benz MFA (modular front architecture) platform for a new compact MPV. The platform currently underpins the Mercedes-Benz B-Class compact MPV.

Mercedes-Benz parent company Daimler, which has been involved in partnership deals with Renault-Nissan Alliance since April last year, has already made deals to supply four-cylinder and V6 engines for the Infiniti M sports sedan.

The first Infiniti vehicle to use the Mercedes-Benz B-Class MFA platform will be the production version of the Infiniti Etherea concept we first saw at the Geneva Motor Show earlier this year. Plans have been made to sell the new Infiniti compact MPV in European markets only, but talks have been made which could see the new model introduced into other markets.

It won't stop there either, according to Renault-Nissan CEO Carlos Ghosn, he says, "You'd be very surprised if in five or six years that Mercedes and Renault/Nissan had only cooperated on small cars". This could mean future Infiniti models could share other Mercedes-Benz platforms, such as those used on various Mercedes-Benz luxury sedans.

The Mercedes-Benz MFA platform is set to be used on the upcoming A-Class, the new CLC four-door coupe and a new compact SUV-based GLC.
