Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 performance specs

Update: GM has released a video showing the production of the new ZR1 from start to finish.

The Corvette has also been quite a conundrum, an American car which was fast in a straight line and around corners - simply unheard of.

Now Chevrolet has revealed the all important performance times for its flagship Corvette ZR1 - and they are simply staggering.

From a standing start, the ZR1 will hit 60 mph in just 3.4 seconds and onto a top speed of 330km/h, however this is slightly faster than our equivalent 0-100km/h benchmark.

Thankfully the quarter mile is the same distance in any country, and the ZR1 takes care of it in only 11.3 seconds at 131 mph - faster than even the mighty Nissan GT-R.

It is also substantially quicker than Chev's previous flagship Z06, improving 0-60 mph performance by 0.3 seconds and 0-100 mph performance is almost a full second faster - 7.0 seconds flat.

"A favorable power-to-weight ratio gives the ZR1 an advantage over the competition and performance that has to be experienced to fully appreciate," said Tom Wallace, Corvette chief engineer. "Of course, on a racetrack, drivers of competitors' cars may appreciate the ZR1 in a whole different manner."

Boasting a new LS9 6.2-litre supercharged small-block V8 engine, you wouldn't expect fuel efficiency to be the ZR1's forte, and it's not - in any realistic terms at least.

However compared to its rivals, the 476kW ZR1 achieves a very competitive 16.8L/100km around town, and 11.7L/100km on the highway - an improvement over the likes of the Ferrari 599 GTB and Lamborghini Murcielago.

"The ZR1 is an incredible machine by any measure," said Ed Peper, North American Vice President, Chevrolet. "There's simply no other vehicle in the world that does a better job of balancing performance, price and fuel economy."

The Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 will cost you USD$103,300 MSRP in the States, bargain. However closer to home I guess we will have to make do with the W427.
