Maybe I’m biased because I’m an ex-pat brit living in the uS and I’ve been watching Top Gear since its inception but I cannot imagine that a US version of the show will have anything like the humor, chemistry or attitude of the original. I can see the US version being a cult success among muscle car fans and tech heads but I don’t imagine it will have anything like the wider appeal of the UK version, which boasts fans of all ages and genders, from car nuts to mechanical ditzes.

Anyway, how can it be Top Gear without Jeremy Clarkson? =) I pray BBC America will keep showing the original.

lol at the delusional guy who wrote this post. SBS wont be getting the new season of top gear UK for at least 6 months…theyve only just started showing season 10.

thank god for high-speed internet and those friendly blokes over at finalgear who record and rip the shows for us, though. :)

I remember Jay Leno talking about the possibility of having Top Gear in the US. He referred to a comedy sketch once where he said something like “did you hear that all new Kias come with a heated rear window? it’s fitted to warm your hands while you’re pushing it.” and he received a barrage of complaints and threats from sponsors.

His point was that Clarkson and his crew can afford to be critical of cars, making fun of them without facing repercussions from angry sponsors. In the US (and perhaps in Australia) this may not be the case.

Tom – i’d love to see the Aussie cars in the UK. How I miss that V8 burble.

Can’t wait for the new season. Like VW_Freak says the Beeb make it available on the web. hopefully it won’t get interupted as usual by bloody snooker hqalfway through the series. Come on BBC out the snooker on BBC3!!!!

As for the yankee version – i’d love to see that too, all those wobbly chunks of sedan cars with underpowered V8’s. Adam Carolla. funny, how about Jim Bobitty Aurion Jnr.

I hope this idea makes it over after 1 season of all of the Us/Aust Top Gear. They ALL take part in some form of endurance racing in the same category. They all have the same budget in which to get a car/tune it. When is the next British endurance race? The one where Top Gear UK participated in? If they all did that, it would be sensational!

If Adam Carolla does as good a job as he did on the man show it will be worth watching, I actually hope the three shows can intergrate at some stages and acknowledge the others existance. For the aussie ones it would be good to do some comparos , aussie cars v euro, japan and US. and use our unique Aussie back drop to do some excellent challenges.

I don’t see them as a european top gear replacement, merely something that is a good cop show with local flavor.

Even if they are half as good as the european one they will still be worth watching.

I’m with Wheelnut on this one, the original show has the right chemistry. I just cannot see how they will come close to Jeremy, James and Richard without looking like a sad imitation.

Anyway a US Top Gear makes much more sense than the Australian version. They have so many more brands and makes of car to choose from.
Plus there is the risk that the Australian show will become a yawn making Falcadore fest.

Ummmm, CA, we’re talking about SBS here, it’ll take ‘em years to put on the new season of TG, as always! Aired in the UK around 5am Monday morning our time, on channel BT a couple of hours later.

Doesn’t really matter who the hosts of the AUS or USA versions of Top Gear are… as I don’t expect them to last longer than one season/series… because there is no way you will be able to replicate the comical interaction between JC The Hamster and Captain Slow… No matter how hard people try they will never be better than the original

I prefer our Australian host’s.

I’m actually really glad how the SBS show turned out. I can’t wait to see them test the latest Clubsport R8 against the FPV F6.

With a bit of luck the show will be broadcast internationally, and the world might get a bit of a feel for how great aussie performance cars are.
