Yes bring back the old days, a commodore with a three place bench seat up front (centre dash air bag)(to replace the info screen) with no centre bin the car will be fitted with a gear lever back on the tree, no carpets, just vinyl, and under the bonnett a 4 cylinder econo power plant, a DI turbo 3.2 ltr v6 or the optional v6 diesel.

Correction, the dash is definately not user friendly and certainly does need an upgrade. It has allready dated badly looking not much better than a VT interior.

Worse is that stupid hand brake lever made of cheap and nasty plastic that feels like it’s about to break off in your hand every time you use it, and if it doesn’t actually break off it’ll try very hard to take the skin off your fingers every time you lower it.

Then there’s the too low mounted information display screen that causes you to run off the road every time you lower your eyes from the road in search of it.

Or what about the range topping Calais that looks very very plain and Omega like, a common cause of complaint..

To see how an interior should be done go take a long drive in an FG Falcon, like the add say’s about the utes (and true also of the sedan) you won’t want to get out…

There is already rumors that overseas holden is no longer offering a 4 speed auto.. So expect that to pass onto us finally in 09..
6 speed auto will come with a slightly upgraded V6 to around 202kw? To piss Toyota off, It should stay there for some years, Expect the 180 to finally be scrapped for the old 190 with some added upgrades from the 195. But an option I’m sure of the DI V6 will be offered also.
Holden has already got E85 V8’s cylinder deactivation and DI V6’s with 6 speed auto’s humming around Melbourne right now, They are hidden in LHD Pontiac G8’s.

One of the interior, They will have a lighter roof lining more the color od the VT’s, Brighter inside it will make a large impact for people who were getting sick of the black. It made it’s debut on the SportWagon.

There wont be a great change inside, More it doesn’t need an overhaul right now, It’s very user friendly the dash..
And lets not forget holden usually doesn’t change displays dash set ups until there new model, This is like VT-VTII VX.
I say VTII and VX because those models share more in common then the S1 and S2 VT’s did.

I think you are close on the Torana, I feel this is Holden future car into the next cycle. It should almost be the family size car we expect to have into the future,
I’m a big cars man myself, And i feel it will be a shame.
But that seems to be the way they are all pressing them?.

Bill the New Look VF is expected to be released around June Next year and will most likely feature a new DI V6 a Diesel V6 and a V8 with DOD. At the same time as the VF is released Don;t be surprised if Holden bring back the AWD Crewman Ute.

At The Moment there aren’t any real plans to build a Territory like Soft Roader/Cross-Over Vehicle on the Zeta Platform. If there were any plans I think Holden would most likely import something like the Chevrolet HH-R.. which is also available as a Deliveryvan > The New Sandman!

As for the “Torana” its expected to be released in 2010-12.
it will be built on the same platform as the new Opel Insignia and will therefore be able to be built in either RWD AWD and even FWD. The Torana sedan is “locked in” as it will also be sold as the Pontiac G6 in the USA.
However; there are rumours from within Holden that a Torana COupe could also be a possibility [GTR-XU1 or A9-X]

I think Holden should release a new look commodore with new engines and lighter weight all at once to provoke more sales and a new market. Also add a suv to the zeta platform for australia. Does anybody know when the medium car/ torana is supposed to be released?

Are you joking right Andrew? The Berlina has Curtain Airbags standard it has always with the VE. And now the base-line Omega Commodore has Curtain airbags standard.

Why doesn’t the VE Berlina get the curtain airbags as standard now? and when will they finally let the old 4-speed auto retire from its long term of service. Also get rid of the hideous handbrake and that interior seems a bit dull compared to the rounded and colourful features of the previous VY-VZ model. If I were ever to buy a Commodore never get the first version, always wait till the Series II or even the second major overhaul Series II. Also, Holden get that Torana made!! A 3-series rival is definately a good idea also as is alternative fuel technologies.

According to the CEO of LPGas Australia comments in yesterdays media reports, Australia has enough LPG reserves to run every vehicle in the country that currently runs on either petrol or diesel for the next 70 years. Surely LPG is a serious alternative for Australia, especially if the cost per litre can either be maintained or even reduced.

LPG is still oil derived though. Why not get away from oil price dependency with natural gas? We’ve got stacks of it in Australia and its quite cheap and clean. Good enough for buses.

Whether the commodore uses less fuel than an Aurion is debatable but my point is this: is this minor update to the commodore going to be enough to stop their decreasing sales with the price of petrol this high? I seriously doubt it. Hopefully the 2010 hybrid introduction will be enough to curb the decrease in sales, but who knows how much we will be paying for petrol by then.

They should follow Hyundai and bring a Hybrid + LPG model to the market. I think that would be their best bet at increasing their sales without having to rely on steady exports to maintain viable Australian production.

Just my 2 cents :)

Saw a new Omega on the road today. Looked really nice. I thought it looked a bit cheap and nasty with the old hubcaps, black door handles and black mirrors. Nice upgrade.
