Volvo Concept You teased ahead of 2011 Frankfurt Motor Show

The Volvo Concept You has been previewed in a teaser video ahead of its unveiling at next week’s 2011 Frankfurt Motor Show.

The Concept You will showcase Volvo’s new SPA (Scalable Platform Architecture) along with its upcoming four-cylinder VEA (Volvo Environmental Architecture) engine technology.

Volvo Car Corporation senior vice president research and development, Peter Mertens, said the Concept You brings together a number of elements fundamental to the future of the brand.

“The concept we will reveal at Frankfurt proves downsized engines can go hand in hand with our customers’ expectations on luxury and driving pleasure,” Mr Mertens said.

As we reported earlier this week, the downsized engines will reduce the number of unique engine parts by 60 per cent and will lead to a reduction in fuel consumption by as much as 35 per cent compared with the current range.

Volvo is keeping details of the Concept You close to its chest for now, but from the teaser video it appears to be a medium or large sedan/shooting brake design inspired by the Volvo Concept Universe that was unveiled at April’s Auto Shanghai 2011 show.

The dramatic front end and simple, uncluttered interior in particular have a lot in common with the Concept Universe, suggesting they may demonstrate the future design direction of the Swedish brand.

The Volvo Concept You will make its international debut at the Frankfurt Motor Show on September 13. Stay tuned for our full coverage live from the show.
