Update: 2012 Toyota HiLux Review
Toyota Australia has today launched the 2012 Toyota HiLux range with an updated look, repositioned pricing and the addition of three new variants.
From the outside the changes are relatively obvious with the new bonnet, front fenders, bumper and headlamps easy to spot. Restyled upper and lower radiator grilles finish off the front-end changes whilst new rear combination lamps (for pick-up models) will help distinguish the 2012 Toyota HiLux from its predecessor.
HiLux SR5 models also gain restyled wheels plus door mirrors with integrated indicators.
Anti-skid brakes and a tachometer have now been added as standard kit across the whole Toyota HiLux range. All 4×4 WorkMates get a limited-slip differential whilst Automatic 4×4 WorkMate, SR and SR5 models also gain cruise control as standard.
Safety enhancements include the addition of side and curtain airbags for 4×4 SR5 and SR variants plus vehicle stability control becomes standard kit to SR5 4×4 double cabs with the availability extendeded to SR double cabs as well (option).
From the inside there is the introduction of a new audio system (different for each grade) plus a complete new centre dash register. The SR5s get a 6.1-inch LCD touch screen with satellite navigation, voice recognition, radio text and safety warnings (school zones, speed & red-light cameras).
Toyota has updated the seat fabrics on selected variants whilst adding automatic climate control to SR5s.
The pick-up 4×2 and 4×4 segments have heated up this year with the arrival of the Volkswagen Amarok as well as cheap Chinese-made models.
The soon to be launched Ford Ranger and Mazda BT-50 are also certain to make huge impacts on the two segments. In order to stay competitive, Toyota Australia has reduced the price of its entire 4×4 HiLux range, offering between $1,960 to $8,340 (SR5 Xtra Cab TD) better value. The Toyota HiLux 4×2 variants have also been repositioned, with some providing up to $1,640 better value.
CarAdvice will bring you a complete review and road test of the new Toyota HiLux range before week’s end. For now, check out the model walkthrough, pricing and gallery below.
