Audi A2 Concept EV revealed ahead of Frankfurt show

Audi has revealed a preview sketch of the new Audi A2 Concept it plans to unveil at the 2011 Frankfurt Motor Show later this month. The Audi A2 is expected to be introduced into the Audi lineup in 2013, potentially offering a fully electric powertrain.

Unlike the previous generation Audi A2, a production that ran from 1999 until 2005, the new Audi A2 showcases a more solid look similar to the smaller Audi A1. The new Audi A2 is said to share similar underpinnings to the current Audi A1, with an aluminium spaceframe.

The new Audi A2 will feature a high waistline like the current crop of Audi vehicles, featuring a slab-sided body with a relatively open cabin and clean-cut pillars. It will also feature Audi's latest front end design with a large distorted hexagonal grille shape.

As for the powerplant and technical details, Audi is keeping that information for the Audi A2 Concept's official unveiling on September 13. The new Audi A2 Concept will measure 3800mm in length, 1690mm in width and 1490mm in height, making it slightly shorter but wider and lower than the old Audi A2.

We'll be sure to keep you updated with full details of the Audi A2 Concept upon its unveiling in just under two weeks. In the meantime, feel free to tell us what you think of the new design.
