Land Rover DC100 Concept Defender SUV revealed

Land Rover will officially unveil the Land Rover DC100 Concept at the 2011 Frankfurt Motor Show next month. The DC100 Concept is said to form the basis of the future 2015 Land Rover Defender.

Land Rover has confirmed a next-generation Land Rover Defender will go into production in 2015. Although it isn't expected to look exactly like this dramatic DC100 Concept, elements of its design will be taken on board during the development of the future production version.

Land Rover says the DC100 Concept builds upon the Defender’s true character and heritage while also opening public debate as to what the future Defender should entail. It is also said to inspire people to dream about Defenders of the future. Gerry McGovern, director of design for Land Rover, said,

"Replacing the iconic Defender is one of the biggest challenges in the automotive design world; it is a car that inspires people worldwide. The DC100 isn’t a production-ready concept, but the beginning of a four-year journey to design a relevant Defender for the 21st century."

Land Rover's global brand director also said,

"We are determined the new Defender will be true to its heritage, while meeting the requirements of an all-new global market. We plan to engage with existing and potential customers to help us finalise the details of the new vehicle."

Specific details of the Land Rover DC100 are expected to be revealed upon its official unveiling at next month's 2011 Frankfurt Motor Show. We'll keep you updated. In the meantime, what do you think of this Land Rover DC100 Concept? It is a worthy successor to the Defender?
