2012 Hyundai Genesis Coupe spotted in factory

By Brett Davis |

After yesterday’s confirmation from Hyundai Australia that the next-generation Hyundai Genesis Coupe will make its way to our shores, images taken by a Hyundai employee have been leaked online showing the face of the new 2012 Hyundai Genesis Coupe. The new Coupe was found sitting on factory floor.

The new face showcases Hyundai’s latest design language, also seen on the Hyundai Veloster, presenting a large hexagonal grille which extends from above the front bumper bar into the lower main fascia. This section is all in black to give it a more sporty look compared with the latest range of Hyundai vehicles.

The headlights for the next-generation 2012 Hyundai Genesis Coupe feature a more complex design, with separate coves and sharper angles for different segments of the headlight cluster and separate bulbs. Almost triangular spotlights in the front corners of the bumper bar also feature a string of LEDs along the top.

The overall bonnet design is much more flat (convex even) compared with the outgoing model, giving the impression of a more tradtional long-nose/short-rear layout of a typical rear-drive sports car. The new rear end also showcases an all-new angular taillight design.

The new 2012 Hyundai Genesis Coupe will reportedly come with two engine options to begin with. A 2.0-litre four-cylinder entry-level engine is said to be on the cards, while a 3.8-litre V6 could make up to top-spec model, producing around 248kW and 394Nm.

Full details will be revealed upon the 2012 Hyundai Genesis Coupe’s official unveiling, which is said to take place at the 2012 North American International Motor Show in Detroit in January.

I hope the 2 litre is turbo charged like the former genesis 4 cylinder, Hyundai please do not release a car that looks great but doesn’t go great with a NA 2 litre ;-(

  • Jason

I can see Maserati in the front end.

    • aza

I can see some Evo X in the front lights, indicators, grille and bonnet design = looking good

  • dtr

these are popular here in the US and the photos do not do them justice. the toyota ft-whatever will have tough time against these both performance and lookswose.

  • Crummydore

Bet ToYOTA ARE KICKING THEMSELVES DROPPING THE CELICA… LIKE OR HATE THEM, THEY WERE A POPULAR NICHE CAR FOR A LONG TIME. ITS JUST LIKE THE PRODUCT PLANNERS AT HYUNDAI ARE JUST TICKING OFF THE LIST AS THEY GO!

    • Jason

      Cool story bro.

  • Pauly

    Looks great!!!

If this is being announced in January its going to be shown off right around when Subaru and Toyota have their FT-86 and BRZ ready to be shown off in production form.

2012/2013 should be great with the revival of some great sports coupes that are resonabily priced.

Now all we need is Honda to make some announcments about bringing the Integra back from the dead… Common Honda!!!!!

    • Trump

And Nissan with a new S16 would cap it off, but we can dream

yes Honda we are looking at you!!
where is the Prelude VTIR ATTS and The Integra TYPE R????

    • http://caradvice OSU811

Both of which are still two of my favourite sports cars of all time, brilliant alive VTEC engines with brilliant FWD handling and chassis that really made you want to go out and DRIVE them hard up a decent road somewhere anywhere!

No!! don’t make it look like the veloster….. It’s has way better n unique look before =( I wanted to buy the new genesis coupe before in australia but if it looks like this then i’m going for FT-86 or subaru version instead….

    • JHP

im sorry, but you actually liked the looks of previous genesis coupe? you must have really dull taste in cars
i honestly think that newer genesis coupe looks million times better than previous gen

  • Jake Williams

Ruined it with the stupid new face… Why Hyundai? It works so well on your other cars, yet don’t put it on earlier models because it just fails!

Well there is always hope……KIA version !!!

      • Gary

Those photos are terrible quality. I reckon wait until you can see it in the metal!

  • Chad

    Objectively:

    Good:
The new fog lights look SICK (you can see the LEDs on top)
The back end (although we can’t see much of it here) looks good.
    Bad:
The grille looks like a smiling panda’s jaw wearing a retainer.( What’s up with the huge plastic segment in the middle of the grille?!? That worked on the veloster only because the veloster had a really small front end)
The headlights are terrible compared to the old ones (and i wasn’t the biggest fan of the old ones to begin with). They made them more straight which is stupid since the whole car has a curved design.

    Subjectively:
Hyundai f-up, big time… (I have the current model by the way.)

The front facia looks identical to the Mazda 3..

    • “James”

i don’t think it looks anything like the mazda 3. It does look more like the veloster. I’m not convinced this is a better design than the outgoing model, but i’d have to see it in better pictures to judge. i think in general this car will be a good model to life hyundai

  • JHP

best looking hyundai i’ve seen so far
will look forward to test drive one of them!

      Hey JHP,
Before you drive next time, you need to go eye doctor or renew your glasses seriously. I mean VERY Seriously.
Actually it’s the sign of brain tumour.
You should go to the doctor anyway.

      • JHP

it depends on the people’s taste charles.
no need to be such a prick about it.
beside, it looks far better than peugeot rcz

  • John Cooper

I think, from what we can see, it looks great and I am looking forward to seeing it in the flesh. It appears to have a front grill similar to an Audi which, looks a lot like a good sized Barramundi about to swallow anything that gets in it’s way.

    K-Poop !!!

  • FF

looks more like Veloster. orignal Genesis Coupe looks way much better

  • Ff

I hope it doesnt comes as i60 coupe lol.. Can anyone explain me why hyundai changes their name in evry different market atleast they should have sticked with Sonata instead of namig it i45 im oz. atleast name sonata was popular.

  • Shak

Did anyone else think Peugeot grille when they saw the front end? Otherwise it looks perfectly fine…

  • FF

peugeot’s are ugly. genesis is awesome

  • Ryan

Am I crazy? I own a 2012 Genesis coupe and I bought it before this article came out? Do they mean 2013?

  • Jeba

New front nose loose the solid look, old one is better. in every aspects hyundai stands equals to luxury car-makers expect the “design” where they have to come up…
