2007 Toyota Tarago V6 Landcruiser 70 Series
Toyota is set to display the new Tarago V6 and LandCruiser 70 Series at the Brisbane Motor Show on 2 February. The biggest improvement to both vehicles is the new engines.
- the first six-cylinder engine ever offered in a Tarago
- Toyota’s first V8 turbo-diesel engine in the LandCruiser 70 Series.
The Toyota Tarago V6 is equipped with a 3.5-litre engine that develops more than 200kW, making it not only a remarkable figure for a people mover but also the most powerful vehicle in its segment. Toyota also claims that it also has better fuel economy than all other petrol six cylinder people movers on the Australian market.

“The reveal of the new LandCruiser workhorse and Tarago V6 is the beginning of a busy year of new model launches for Toyota Australia, the program means that, by December, Toyota Australia’s entire range will have been replaced by all-new or heavily revised models in the space of less than three years.
“The new models will help us retain our market leadership in Queensland and put Toyota on course to once again be the number one brand in Australia in 2007.” said Alan Porich, executive director, sales and marketing.
Don’t be scared though, the four-cylinder range isn’t going anywhere as the Toyota Tarago V6 was in response to consumer demands for more power in the Tarago people mover. Hence it is only a supplement to the current four-cylinder range. The new Tarago V6 range will be launched publicly in February 2007.

Apart from the new Tarago, the new Landcruise 70 series powered by Toyota’s new turbo-diesel V8 engine is also on display at the Brisbane International Motorshow. Toyota says that the new V8 engine complies with stringent Euro IV tailpipe emission standards introduced for diesel engines from 1 January 2007.

The V8 turbo-diesel engine is set to replace the current 4.2-litre turbo and non-turbo-diesel six-cylinder engines. Of course its hard to fit a big engine without having to restyle the entire car, so Toyota has also restyled the 70 series. The new car will be on sale towards the end of first quarter 2007.

At last a car manufacturer has produced a people mover with grunt and style. Looking forward to the new Tarago. Good on you Toyota!

About time they released a V6 version.
Still, I wonder how it will compare to the Mazda MPV - that’s already a V6 and has features not even the Tarago has - and the MPV is being replaced by the CX-9 SUV early in 2008 anyhow - perhaps a little too late Toyota, you should have done this 2 years ago!

I am a current Mazda MPV owner (current model). I’m forced to look at the Tarago because Mazda is about to opt out of the People Mover market altogether. Theres a fantastic new MPV available in Japan but Mazda won’t release it here. Very frustrating! As for the CX-9. I beleive it will just be a bigger version of the current CX-7. The 3rd row of seats will be small children only. This is not going to make it a true people mover but another ‘kind of 4WD’ with ‘dickie’ seats in the back. The MPV has been a great car but it’s now getting dated.

Recently visited the Brisbane Motor Show to look at the new Tarago. What a supurb vehicle! Electric fold-away 3rd row into a large cargo area. Electric side doors, double sun roof. I was drooling.
