I think a lot of you guys are missing the point about the Evo.

I grew up loving them. I even had a little model of an Evo V that I made and painted myself (silver with black and red interior, thank you very much lol). I’m certainly buying the straight Evo with the Performance Package. Personally, I think the car looks fantastic and I can’t wait to flog it round corners.

You’re forgetting that some people love the name, and love the car, and pay that kind of money to have one. There are some things you can’t rationalise.

i drive a subie… and yes i love my evos also… but $72grand for a mitsibishi…????? WTF…??? think about it that’s a deposit for a house… big one at that…. fair enough their bringing out a gsr…. to compete with subaru… but at the base price id go the subie…handsdown.. just because it will be your bang for buck alternative..and the fact that subies sound better… admitbly subaru phucked up big time with the new wrx… so we wont go their.. but u can pic up a 2007model wrx tuned by sti/special edition at the low 40’s with leather…. and a biger 2.5ltr engine with the famous froggy noise… end of the day it will always be a lancer… and i cnt justify 72k…. im with the M3 on that one… :) just remember…this.. picking up a lady in a bmw m3 or and evo x? i wonder which one will pull you more routes.. hahah :)

Hands up those who remember the fanfare at the launch of the Mitsubishi 380 where the mantra was “we are a premium product and we will not be discounting” …. well 3 months later…!!

Ultimately, it’ll be the market that determines the right price.

Chucky : how many did they sell at 70k?

By the end dealers were selling 6.5’s for 50k to get rid of them, and a Evo 9 was a 57k proposition.

There is a huge jump from that to 72…

Another story of Misti Aus setting itself up for a massive fail. The yen is strong, so pretty much we are being taken for a ride. Try 35k in Japan for one!

Must be just me,but that EVO X looks dated.A squarish looking sedan with an overpowering grille.As for the price,no way would I pay $72,000 for a Lancer!
I would rather buy the 135i or a used BMW M3.

I dunno, I was a huge fan of the EVO X, but fully on STI side now…

cant wait for the reviews for both anyways..

Hmmm, the range topping sti spec.r is 65k while the range topping evo is 72k. 7k price difference but i guess you don’t get that dual clutch transmission…

Still, 72k for an evo, just sounds… a bit off-putting (and i’m not a brand fanboy either), just that there’s many a nice car to be had for 72k.

They used to cost a lot more than that and you didn’t get all these fancy luxury features either, yet people still bought them. But yes, the BMW 135i does throw a spanner in the works.

One thing that annoys me is that it doesn’t come with HID’s as standard!!!!WHY!! Will give it a chance but the IX is the best so far.

George, they will, didn’t you read the article? quote from the above article “We are certain that the WRX competitor, the Lancer GSR will use the EVO X engine and the EVO IX drivetrain”. They just haven’t released pricing of this GSR model yet, but there definetly will be one and it will be aimed price wise at the base WRX

at first you think yeah i can handle just the base model but then you start thinking about how cool it would be to play F1 and bang on the paddle shifts, especially considering the DSG gearboxes actually shift when you tell them too unlike normal auto’s, then you read the spec sheet and look at what extra’s the MR model gets and you start thinking “well how cam i not have any of that!” and then all of a sudden your spending $12,200 more then you told the missus you would! oops..

…so totally worth it!

How appropriate that this article is posted at almost the same time as the BMW 135 review…. what a choice!! … I wish it was one that I had to make :(
