I heard a story about a guy that drove his Hummer forom Adelaide to Melbourne and it cost $800. This was back when fuel was $1.10-$1.20 maybe less. Don't know how he got it back to Adelaide, probably by truck....lol.

Alot of waste in GM plants in the US. As Wheelnut said they have a number of plant duplicating what other plants do in other states. The type of vehicles that they produce, large SUV's get only 8 MPG. Compared to a Honda or Toyota (6cylinder) around 25-32 MPG. The V8 G8 GT gets around 15MPG.

Eddy The Expert, how did you come up with such an intelligent and insightful comment?

GM is simply shedding some of its less profitable ventures, as I'm sure all businesses will do from time to time, even Toyota.
But GM is in trouble though, the VW group is slowly eating away at their sales as is the rest of the worlds car manufacturer's. The GM empire is crumbling, oh well Rome didn't last forever, neither will GM.

GM's hittin' the panic button! Hummers are just like Harleys... sad cultures that need to die and be buried, once and for all. Small car sales, hybrid sales, and VW :) sales are going to go through the roof!

On the local market - The car company that is making the biggest improvements as far as design; quality; features; and sales etc is Mazda. They're already passed Nisaan Honda and Mirtsubishi and gradually closing the gap to Ford.. Therefore; I believe its not Ford or Holden the Toyo-tossers should be [immediately] concerned about but Mazda. Particularly with the new Mazda6 v Camry.. and the Mazda 3

he, he, he ... ooh, oooh, ooh ... ha, ha, ha !!

GM GOING DOWN THE GURGLER

I LOVE IT ... !!

People lose thier jobs at GM but they gain employment from the other manufactuers doing so much better.

I noticed Toyota managed a 15% increase in Canada

I bet Toyota Oz returned more strong sales

Honda going strong aswell - good to see ... CONGRATS Honda.

Better still, it appears VW is taking sales away from GM and Ford more so then other manufactuer.

What have i been saying all along - be more concerned about Ford and GM then Toyota or any other reputable manufacter for that matter.

GM and thier supporters have dug Toyota and others for year but now it is PAYBACK ... BIG TIME !!

Remember the ole saying JAPCRAP - mmm ... GM CRAP !!!

OH WHAT A FEELING ...

If GM are to sell Hummer they will lose their only unique vehicle range.

Best to sell it to Jeep, they need a quality injection.....

The reason GM are closing 4 plants is because they have a number or plants in the USA that are not only operating at below 70% [compared to 95% at Holden] but they are also producing exactly the same cars as another plant in another state. Therefore; they have decided to close a couple of plants and shift production to the more productive facilities inorder.

The other reason of course is Amercians are finally starting to realise thatwith the influx of more imported cars to the US that compared to cars such as Subaru etc the quality of a number of their cars is comparable to that of Daewoo or Daihatsu

Even though its bad news for GM[US[ it could be good news for Holden who have plans to expand the factory at Elizabeth [most likely for the "Torana"].. who knows they could be making even more cars for GM such as the Chev HHR Delivery thereby ensuring their security for sometime to come.

I can't understand the appeal of Hummers in the first place. They're ugly, and I haven't bothered to look if they're actually any good, but I'd expect a build quality of a Transformers toy, although, the Transformer probably has more innovative thinking behind it.
