Toyota has been voted the ‘World’s Greenest Brand’ according to a survey by prestigious international brand consultancy, Interbrand.

The survey ranked the first ‘Best Global Green Brands’ by scoring their environmental performance and public perception of a brand’s ‘green profile’ for a total ‘Green Performance Score’.

The data was collected from many of the world’s largest markets including the USA, UK, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Brazil and India, who collectively gave Toyota the top score of 64.19 points and just ahead of 3M and Siemens in second and third place respectively.

The report from Interbrand highlights Toyota as “a leading example of making the environment a core management priority, while also engaging in a meaningful way with audiences around the world”.

For Toyota, it’s all about their hybrid technology, which has found its way into over 3.2 million Toyota and Lexus vehicles since 1997. Spearheaded by Prius and Hybrid Camry and recently joined by the Lexus CT 200h luxury hatch, Toyota, like no other car manufacturer has made such a vast commitment to reducing fuel consumption and CO2 emissions.

Toyota is also making their manufacturing plants ‘green’ through sustainable power infrastructure. Examples of such an ‘eco plant’ include the addition of a large-scale solar power system at its facility in Derbyshire, in the UK.

In France at its factory in Valenciennes, Toyota have installed a solar wall, while wind turbines are planned at it’s logistics building in Zeebrugge, Belgium.
