Mazda Black Limited Edition MX-5 and Mazda2

Mazda in the UK have just released details of the ‘Black Limited Edition MX-5 Sport Black and Mazda2 Black and numbers are indeed 'limited'.

In recognition of the highly successful 205 kW Mazda MX-5 GT race car, which competes in the current Britcar Production GTN Championship, the two ‘Black Limited Edition’ models are said to ‘bring a darker edge to Mazda’s model range’.

The MX-5 GT car weighs just 850 kilograms, and that’s 90 kilograms lighter than original and first generation MX-5 production model.

It’s quick too achieving to podiums and is currently running third in it’s class. That’s a class that also includes more powerful race cars such as those from BMW, Lotus and Ferrari, but the super agile handling MX-5 GT car has been competitive with the competition.

The Sport Black line-up comes with selection of unique paint finishes and enhanced specifications that include a Black powered folding hard top, which will offset the body the special body colours of Spirited Green metallic, Crystal White Pearlescent and Velocity Red mica.

Additional to the list Sport Black extras are a set of gun metal 17-inch dark alloys, black leather with sand coloured stitching, piano black steering wheel and trim along with ‘Black Limited Edition’ badging, floor mats and a unique interior plaque.

The Sport Black Edition is loaded with the same equipment spec as Mazda UK’s Sport Tech model with Climate Control Air Conditioning, Bose audio with Bluetooth hands free, cruise control and front fog lights.

Just 500 Sport Black MX-5 editions will be produced at a cost that is only £360 more than the six-speed Sport Tech model that forms the basis for this special edition.

The Limited Edition Mazda2 Black gets a similar kind of treatment to the MX-5 model, with a choice of exterior colours that include Spirited Green metallic, Crystal White Pearlescent and True Red.

Based on Mazda UK’s 1.3-litre Tamura model Mazda2, the ‘Black’ edition adds a black vinyl roof, matt black 16-inch alloys, privacy glass, rear bumper sports trim, front fog lights and ‘Black Edition’ badging.

Interior features include; Sports interior with climate control air conditioning, Bluetooth handsfree (a Parrot system), electric rear windows, Limited Edition floor mats and a unique plaque.

Only 618 examples of the Mazda2 Black are available at a price of £12, 395 for the True red and £12, 815 for metallic or pearlescent paint jobs.

Disappointingly, these special editions do not receive any performance upgrades above the model variants they are based upon.
