Alfa Romeo 4C promotional film

Even though the Alfa Romeo 4C isn't set to debut until later in the year, Alfa Romeo is starting to build anticipation for the new model and has released its first promotional video.

The 4C is like a small version of the Alfa 8C supercar, only it features a mid-mounted 1750cc turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine instead of the 8C's 4.7-litre V8. The new unit will produce upwards of 149kW, according to the video, which will help shift the sleek coupe from 0-100km/h in under five seconds.

The Alfa Romeo 4C was first unveiled at the 2011 Geneva Motor Show as a concept vehicle, but it has since received great reviews and expressions of interest. So far, Alfa plans to launch the car in the US in limited numbers by the end of this year. The 4C is then planned to hit European markets sometime during 2012.

In the video, Alfa reveals the new model will come equipped with a TCT dual-clutch transmission and rear-wheel drive. The car will also provide an excellent power-to-weight ratio thanks to its overall low weight - said to be around 850kg, thanks to a carbon chassis.

The Alfa Romeo 4C is a stunning bit of gear, and we hope Alfa eventually releases the car Down Under. Take a look at the video below for a preview of some of the highlights.
