The oddly shaped Nissan Cube has been caught undergoing testing before its debut next year.

We first saw the Denki Cube at the New York Auto Show earlier this year, but that “Denki” which is Japanese for “electric” does not apply in this case as the prototype photographed here is actually the next-generation petrol-powered 2009 Nissan Cube.

There is a very good chance a hybrid might still be following as the Denki Cube concept car is still part of Nissan’s Green Program 2010, focusing on wide-ranging environmental improvements from reduction of CO2 and exhaust emissions to improving recycling efficiency.

The recent announcement that Nissan and NEC had joined to make AESC to produce lithium ion batteries indicates that Nissan is serious about catching up to its two Japanese rivals in the hybrid game.

Postman Pat makes his big comeback!
It hurts to just look at that thing!
Yep! Flashback to the 80’s!
And Nissan Aus said the other day that they might bring it here… FOR A BIT UNDER $30,000! Even the Micra looks better than that!
Now I know what people in the art world mean when they say cubist minimalism.
CarAdvice’s mission should you choose to accept it; is to find what the coefficient of drag (Cd) rating is for this vehicle. :D
well well, i thought it would be accepted ok here. perhaps i was wrong. i have been to japan numerous times and it caught my eye in so far as a suburban vehicle goes. sep for mums taxi etc. in japan it is also avail in a 7 seat and very roomy. i rode in one as a taxi. the driver didnt complain about it either as his words were very echonomical, roomy, easy park as wheel at each corner and much cheaper than a prius. (they use them as taxis also)
