Ferrari announces winners of 2011 Ferrari World Design Contest

Ferrari has announced the winner of the 2011 Ferrari World Design Contest. Designers from all around the world put in some breathtaking concepts, but in the end, it was the Ferrari Eternita from Hongik University in Korean that received first place honours.

The Ferrari Eternita concept was designed by three students from Hongik University, Ahn Dre, Kim Cheong Ju, and Lee Sahngseok. It features a unique rear wheel layout which cuts away into the body, while the front offers a low-strung very supercar-like nose and high front wheel arches.

Picking up second place was the Ferrari Xezri from the Istituto Europeo di Design in Turin, Italy. Created by Samir Sadikhov, the Xezri is perhaps the most conventional of the finalists, showcasing traditional low-profile lines. From the side you can see the smooth flowing curves which flow consistently over the roof and up into the rear end design.

Selected as third place was the dramatic Ferrari Cavallo Bianco concept which was designed by students from the Royal College of Arts in London. Henry Cloke (UK) and Qi Haitao (China) both took on an unlimited design philosophy stretching the conventional supercar layout to the extreme. From the front it almost looks like a catamaran, while the body is very low and aerodynamically shaped.

Each contestant had to come up with a 1:4 scale model of their designs as well as 2D and 3D sketches. Ferrari asked of all contestants to take the elements of the hypercar philosophy to the extreme, including proposals for the powerplants.

From the images, it certainly looks like the designers have fulfilled the task.
