Rolls-Royce Ghost Extended Wheelbase preview

Rolls-Royce has given CarAdvice a special sneak preview of its forthcoming Ghost Extended Wheelbase at a special event in Singapore today.

In response to customer demand from the Asia-Pacific region, Rolls-Royce has created a lengthened version of its already brilliant Ghost sedan.

The car is now 170mm longer overall, and from the B-pillar back it's all new sheet metal. Keeping the proportions of the Ghost well resolved was a challenge for the factory in Goodwood, so the rear doors are now exactly the same length as the front doors. Walking past the Ghost EWB, you'd be hard pressed to pick it from a regular Ghost.

Inside, however, the extra room is much more noticable. Increasing the door's length has enabled easier entry and egress for rear seat passengers and given a staggering amount of rear knee and legroom. Some of the journalists here in Singapore could quite literally stretch out their legs and not touch the backs of the front seats.

One of the problems with lengthening a car, however, is the passengers sit so far back they can't reach the controls. Rolls-Royce has resolved this issue by lengthening the centre console, enabling people in the back to access climate controls and the DVD player.

Other changes to suit the 2012 model are slightly reshaped and smaller mirrors to reduce the Ghost's "big ears" look, as well as moving the ashtray to the centre of the seat. The armrests have also be redesigned due to customer feedback, making them more comfortable.

Under the bonnet still lies the 6.6-litre twin-turbo V12 which makes 420kW and a massive 780Nm, which will propel the car from 0-100km/h in 5.0-seconds flat. Surprisingly, for the extra size, the Ghost EWB only weighs 35kg more.

Pricing for the Rolls-Royce Ghost Extended Wheelbase will be around $750,000 and it will arrive in Australia in the first quarter of 2012.

CarAdvice will bring you a road test of the Rolls-Royce Ghost Extended Wheelbase very soon.
