Hey be glad you guys get a Diesel!

We only get a choice of a 4 or 6 gas engine (petrol)…

But love my 08 9-3 2l turbo… When gas hit $4 a gallon here, I got rid of my Silverado truck (5.3L V8). I know, boo hoo $4 a gallon, you guys damn near pay that a liter! And BTW, I paid $27K and change for my 9-3 but didn’t opt for all the goodies. Still love it. And now my fill-ups don’t hurt so much… If I could have got a diesel I Possibly would have but we in the US get VERY few and mostly on trucks (6L + engines)…

So get one and tell me how cool it is… I’ll just live vicarously through your diesel ;-)

Be very careful quoting acceleration times from UK (or for that matter US) websites. They are usually quoted in terms of 0 to 60 mph. 60 mph is not 100 km/h. 100 km/h is closer to 62 mph. It might be only 2mph but typically you can add up to 0.5 sec to the 0-60 mph to get 0-100 km/h times.

On the car itself – yes looks great value compared with the 2.8T petrol Aero (assuming you can afford the cost of the diesel – but personally I’d be waiting 6 months or more for the AWD versions.

Jbot – where did you get 8.5, the UK website clearly states 8.0 manual. 8.4 for the slush box. The diesel is nearly as quick in gear as the 2.8litre 184Kw petrol 4.8 v 5.0 (40-60mph) and 6.3 v 6.3 (50 to 70mph). In fact that 2.0litre is quicker than my 3.0CDTi vectra wagaon to 100kmh

From Saab’s website, the TTiD is 8.5 secs for manual and 8.9 secs for auto. It costs $62,600 which is $8,000 less than the 2.8 litre turbo V6 Aero, but $6,000 more than the Vector Lux with the 154kW turbo petrol engine (although granted the features it has over the Vector Lux probably almost make up for the difference).

It doesn’t look like a bad car, but it seems like it is a lot more show than go. Plus resale value on Saab sedans are terrible.

The petrol Aero is still much faster.. From Saab Oz site, 0-100 in 6.7s, 10.2L/100km (combined), diesel Aero mentioned here does 0-100 in 8.5s, 5.7L/100km (combined)

Got it slighty wrong Maximus – 0to100 in 8.0seconds!!! woosh 6.7’s/100; 80kmh to 110kmh in 6.3 seconds; 64kmh to 96 in 5.0secs.
Have a look at the UK saab site, it has all the stats. nearly as fast as an Aurion with skinny wheels

Isn’t the Aero supposed to be Saab’s performance nameplate? low 9s is pretty slow for a $70k on road car… Sure the fuel economy is good, but 0-100 is ordinary.
