2012 Audi S6 Avant revealing spy shots

By Brett Davis |

Audi has been spotted road testing the upcoming 2012 Audi S6 Avant wagon. This pre-production model was seen wearing zero camouflaging, driving about in Germany.

Apart from the usual Audi S6 revisions, the new Audi S6 Avant will be almost identical visually to the recently released Audi A6 Avant models. It will come with the usual subtle S line trimmings including the neat bodykit and chrome detailing around the grille and door lining.

There are telltale signs that this isn’t your average Audi A6 S line though. The S6 will come with quad exhaust pipes poking out from the back, large alloy wheels hiding significantly upsized brake calipers and disc rotors, as well as various interior changes.

The interior will feature heavily bolstered seats with optional front bucket seats, a number of ‘S6′ logos and badges throughout and a flat-bottomed S6 steering wheel.

Up front will sit a new 4.0-litre V8 engine with direct-injection producing around 335kW of power. The Volkswagen Group’s newest V8 unit is also said to be the source of power for upcoming Bentley models, albeit with an added turbochargers.

The 2012 Audi S6 will be unveiled in full sometime towards the end of this year and is expected to hit showrooms early next year.

CarAdvice is currently at the launch event for the new 2012 Audi A6. Stay tuned for a full review in the next couple of days.

the front is nice, but the back is a little basic.

The headlights are too big, which makes it appear excessively wide, and the grille is huge, which is similar to those horrible gaping frog mouthed Peugeots of late.

  • PeterG

Impressive mechanicals let down by the most boring looks in the universe.

Funny enough not what other websites saying like Autospies.

    Looks very nice indeed.

Germans are the luckiest companies, they can sell garbage and charge so much and yet people buy it..

    I’ve noticed most Volkswagen buyers

It will be a very good car but the way it looks would just send me to sleep. As these vehicles enter Aus under a different import code (different to their Q5 for example) this car will be $160+ making it way overpriced for this market. The rear three quarter view is indistinguable from that of an Audi A4 I’m sure you agree.
