Peugeot 508 RXH Diesel-Electric Hybrid

Peugeot have released the first official photos of their planned 508 RXH Diesel-electric hybrid before it’s international reveal at this year’s Frankfurt Motor Show in September.

CarAdvice is currently attending the Australian launch of the Peugeot 508 and from initial reports, Peugeot have clearly delivered a prestige car that should attract a raft of buyers looking for euro luxury and on-road dynamics at a bargain price well under it’s German competitors.

So what is the Peugeot 508 RXH?

Essentially, it’s a 508 SW Estate (wagon) but with a few key differences. The suspension is raised so that it rides higher than the standard 508 SW, and it looks similar to Audi’s Allroad in some respects. It’s wider than the 508 SW too with distinctive LED lights, which are visible during the day as well as night.

Inside, the 508 RXH will get the top of the line premium treatment with standard kit including, Peugeot’s Open & Go system, electric front seats, head-up display, 18-inch wheels, panoramic glass roof, dark-tinted laminated side windows and the latest generation audio and navigation unit.

But under the bonnet is what makes Peugeot’s 508 RXH different. There are no petrol drivetrains with this model. The sole powertrain available is a 2.0 litre HDi FAP Hybrid4, which featured in the 3008 Hybrid4. This new drive unit in the 508 RXH, extends the vehicles capability across all roads and should be a hit with winter sports fans given its four-wheel drive capability. Maximum power is rated at 147 kW and torque is substantial at 450 Nm. The added benefit of this Hybrid4 drivetrain is that drivers can select the ZEV 100 percent electric mode for city driving and reduce fuel consumption to less than 4.2L/100km with emissions of 109 g/km.
