Ferrari says no to new Lancia Stratos production

Dreams of the new Lancia Stratos making it into production have just been shattered, with Ferrari announcing it will not consent to the reproduction of the one-off new Lancia Stratos in the foreseeable future.

It was probably going to be a long shot anyway, but now that it's official, it's a bit sad. In a recent statement made on the New Stratos website, it said none of the suppliers, such as Pininfarina and other Ferrari-dependent groups, were not allowed to reproduce the model, even for a limited production run. The statement said,

"Despite Ferrari president Luca di Montezemolo’s excellent assessment of the New Stratos after his test drive at Fiorano, Ferrari does not consent to construction of the planned limited run by either Pininfarina or any other Ferrari-dependent suppliers."

The statement went on to say,

"Creation of additional vehicles seems possible only via companies that are not dependent on Ferrari."

Production speculation of a new Stratos was sparked when German businessman Michael Stoschek decided he wanted to inject necessary funds into Fiat and Pininfarina to help him come up with a very special modern take on the Lancia Stratos.

The end result was a car of pure beauty. It featured almost identical lines and body contours matching those of the original. It was also built on a Ferrari 430 Scuderia donor car, borrowing the engine, transmission and rear sub frame.

It looks like Stoschek's Stratos will remain as one of the rarest and most highly sought-after vehicles on the planet.
