2012 Audi A5 coming to Australia in 2012

The 2012 Audi A5 and 2012 Audi S5 ranges have been unveiled, with styling, efficiency and equipment enhancements for the new model year.

The A5 Coupe, A5 Cabriolet and A5 Sportback, and their high-performance sports variants, the S5 Coupe, S5 Cabriolet and S5 Sportback, take styling cues from the recently launched Audi A6 sedan.

CarAdvice has contacted Audi Australia about the availability of the refreshed models, and we will update the story when we hear more.

With UK deliveries not set to start until December 2011, however, the new A5 and S5 will not arrive in Australia until sometime in 2012.

The A5 range will feature a new 1.8-litre TFSI petrol engine with 125kW of power and 320Nm of torque. Its combined cycle fuel consumption is just 5.7 litres/100km in the Coupe thanks to stop-start technology, which is standard on all engines across the range.

The 155kW/350Nm 2.0-litre TFSI is unchanged from a performance perspective, while a supercharged 3.0-litre TFSI V6 engine with 200kW is new to the A5 line-up.

The diesel options include a 130kW 2.0-litre TDI and a 150kW 3.0-litre TDI. Fuel consumption will dip as low as 4.7 litres/100km from these models. A Euro 6-compliant 180kW version of the 3.0 TDI will also be released sometime later, which will be even more efficient.

Transmissions will continue to include continuously variable and six-speed manual options for front-wheel drive models and the choice of a manual or seven-speed S tronic dual-clutch transmission for all-wheel drive quattro models.

All S5 models will be powered by the 245kW/440Nm 3.0-litre TFSI engine, replacing the 4.2-litre V8 in the Coupe variant. Acceleration from 0-100km/h takes just 4.9 seconds while combined cycle fuel consumption will be as low as 8.1 litres/100km.

In Germany, there will be modest price rises across the board, which is likely to be reflected in the pricing of Australian models.

All new A5 models are equipped with electromechanical power steering, which is designed to improve handling throughout the speed range and offer more feedback to the driver.

Along with the exterior and interior styling enhancements, Audi has upgraded the A5’s infotainment packages and also added new driver assist safety features, including optional Active Lane Assist and Adaptive Cruise Control with emergency braking.

Full Australian specifications of the 2012 Audi A5 and S5 will be revealed closer to their local launch next year. Stay tuned.
