2007 BMW 3 Series Convertible

No matter what they say, there is absolutely nothing like driving around in a Convertible. For those who haven't tried it, its a must. It changes your whole driving experience! But even so, there are convertibles, and there are convertibles. From the likes of the cheap and cheerful Ford Caprice back in the day, to the iconic MX-5, there is infact a great deal of choice.

However BMW convertibles have always been in a class of their own, there is nothing like chopping the roof of a 3 series beamer and driving around in perfect whether. So the tradition continues, as the new range of convertible 3 series BMWs are set to make their way to Australia in the first quarter of this year.

But till then, here is some news to keep you entertained. BMW says that the 07 model convertibles have been reinvented and presented with a folding metal hardtop for the first time. The new car has a low and smooth shoulder line that belies the capacious storage compartment that hides the folded roof as well as respectable accommodation for luggage.

The new model comes with a choice of 160 kW 325i straight six magnesium-aluminium engine, or the new top of the range all-aluminium Twin Turbo 225 kW engine in the 335i. There is no word yet on the M3 convertible. I think it would be wise to first see the actual M3 sedan before it comes in a convertible version.

BMW claims that it takes just 22 seconds for the fully-lined retractable hardtop to unfold itself from behind the rear seats. The three-piece lightweight steel roof provides both superior sound insulation and extremely large windows for excellent visibility.

However, when opening the roof, there is is a full second advantage over closing, and once stowed, the boot retains a a not-so-bad 210 litres of luggage space. In addition, the rear section of the seat backs fold flat allowing a through-loading system that means bulkier items than ever can be carried securely.

BMW Australia says Australian specification and pricing details will be announced closer to the release of the vehicle in Australia.
